On the Verge of Another 100 Loss Season?

Is it too early to worry about another 100 loss season?

I’m kind of worrying about the upcoming season because how the offseason is going for the ‘Stros. We have learned a few things thus far that are giving us clues about how the front office will approach the winter. These clues, statements, and hints given to us by the front office are a little worrisome.

First, during a radio interview, Lunhow hinted that George Springer would not be up with the big league club to start the season. That kind of threw cold water on our hopes, as a TCBer pointed out earlier. Let’s say he’s not called up until the All-Star break; then he would give us approximately 2 WAR, maximum, in my opinion. That’s not going to get us at the 70 wins everyone is hoping for.

Next, Lunhow said in an interview that he’s going to take "the wait-and-see" approach to going after free agents. We were all rooting for Shin-Soo Choo, but that looks like an afterthought now. We wanted grade A, top tier free agents, but no dice so far. I know we offered Abreu but that’s a different story. He doesn’t have the career that Choo has had thus far. According to Lunhow’s comments, we are not going to chase the premiere talent that the fans want. The delayed approach will hopefully not cost us more wins. A popular belief is that we need an outfielder, a starting pitcher, and multiple relief pitchers. It’s sounding like Lunhow will again go after the veteran’s that are past their prime and will hand out one year contracts. It doesn’t seem like he wants to get into a contract with a FA past one year now. Does that lead to more Rick Ankiel’s, Erik Bedard’s, or Ronnie Cedeno’s?? I don’t know. Let’s hope not. The fans deserve better than that. We have endured long enough. Things in the offseason have already been progressing without us. Josh Johnson, who seems like a classic Astro guy just got plucked; LeTroy Hawkins got signed; Tim Hudson, another possible suitor, got locked up by the Giants. We need to get in on the action. According to reports, we were interested in Johnson but to no avail. In my opinion, things need to heat up or we will be left in the dust, with barely any quality talent, and another 100 loss season.

Am I worrying too soon? Your thoughts?
