I am a huge baseball fan but I need a little help in understanding the advanced metrics that are used to evaluate a player's value....UZR, xFIP, +WAR, etc. What do they all mean? How do you compare someone's WAR of 1.5 to someone's of 1.6? My family didn't have cable growing up so I listened to my baseball games on the radio. I understand the tangible numbers I can see...AVG, HR, R, ERA...but now you hear that his ERA isn't really how well he was pitching because his FIP was much higher. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
