Jeff Luhnow has received his fair share of love this week, from all the national media. Several articles touched base on his forward analytic thinking and draft approach with his previous employer. This made me start thinking about the success rate he had with the Cardinals 2009 Draft. Which in return had me taking a second look at our 2012 draft selections. Something that really stuck in my mind was when Morgan Ensberg spoke so glowingly about his team in Lancaster. He believed they had multiple future players that could contribute at the major league level.
The Cardinals 2009 draft was exceptional all the way around. The list of players so far to contribute include Shelby Miller, Joe Kelly, Matt Carpenter, Trevor Rosenthal, & Matt Adams. My question is do you guy's think we can top this, quantity wise or even quality wise? Here is my list of prospects I think will make the show and contribute on a regular basis Carlos Correa, Lance McCullers, Nolan Fontana, Rio Ruiz, Preston Tucker, Andrew Aplin, Aaron West, Brady Rodgers & Tyler Heineman. Yes, I understand they are 2-3 years away and yes I understand prospects flame out, but damn can a man dream? Could this be the next draft Luhnow gains all the national media once again? The 2012 draft has caught my eye more so than any Astros draft in recent history, probably due to the immediate success they have already encountered. I will be looking forward to 2015-2016 when these players start becoming the new Astros core players.
I am by no means a good writer and I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of the people who put the time and effort into this website. My hopes are to spark the interest of one of our writers to do a more in depth article. Thanks for reading my ramble!!
