2013 MLB Draft: Weekly College Prospect Roundup

Kyle Laferriere-US PRESSWIRE

How did some the top College prospects perform in week nine of the NCAA Season?

This week, the race for the first overall pick continued to tighten as Jonathan Gray turned in yet another dominant performance, while Mark Appel had one of his worst outings of the season. Although Kris Bryant and Sean Manaea are still darkhorse candidates for the number one pick, Appel and Gray have really separated themselves, and I'd be shocked if the Astros selected anyone either than the two in June's draft.

Below you'll find lines for Appel, Gray, Bryant and Manaea, along with the majority of draft-eligible College prospects worth noting. I've attempted to separate the 1-1 candidates from the rest of the first round, as well as the non-first rounders. If any of the following prospects catch your eye this week, I encourage you to check out the draft section at TCB, because we may have written a profile about him. I also encourage you to visit and bookmark CollegeSplits.com – where all this week's stats were found – for all your College Prospect statistical needs.

My favorite hitting performance of the week comes from Jared King, who went 7-13 with a homer and five stolen bases. The KSU outfielder now has 11 SBs on the season, to go along with a trip-slash of .361/.444/.574. He's an interesting prospect to keep an eye on – big-time athlete with a lot of tools.

My favorite pitching performance comes from Arizona State's Trevor Williams. He went eight innings, allowing 12 hits, and four earned runs, while walking none and striking out one. Williams' line is wonky – you don't normally see guys last eight innings, allowing 12 hits. You also rarely see a guy go eight innings with only one strikeout. I get that Williams pounds the strikezone and is a control master, but I don't see him being a successful Major Leaguer until his starts missing bats. And since it hasn't happened yet, I doubt it ever happens.

Without further adieu, this week's performances:

PS. I left out runs scored and RBIs, because I simply don't care. Sorry if you do.
