Astros Minor League Recap: September 8, 2012

It was a good season for the Corpus Christi Hooks, but it was a depressing way to end it. I know TCB commenter ccislanders is a bit depressed over it. You can see his his depression in this thread from last night. Last night marked then end of their playoff run as they were swept by the AA affiliate of organization that this guy (and a second tweet) is fan of. Aren't you glad we'll be having a forced rivalry and in the same division as fans like that? I'm not saying all Rangers fans are like this, cause I know several nice Rangers fans. But, it's ridiculous that anyone could even think like that. Either way, Tim Purpura who is now the farm director for the Rangers was in attendance for last nights game, and I blame him for ending the Hooks season. That guy is an Astros curse.

Back to Astros talk. Tri-City opened up their playoff series with a win. I was at work last night so I admit I have no idea what the game was like for either the CC or the TC game. But, based on the box score, the ValleyCats just took what they could get and singled their way to runs. Lots of singles, in fact, they scored five runs and failed to get any extra base hits.

Lancaster won a game that induced a heart attack for somebody somewhere. The reason? It was the night inning with two outs and bases loaded, Jorge De Leon came in fresh out of the bullpen. What happens? He induces a pop-up to in foul territory for the final out. Andrew Robinson was shaky after coming in with one out in the ninth, he was able to get just one out while walking two and hitting another. David Martinez on the other hand was effective in his regular fashion. He got outs but wasn't dominating. He was typical David Martinez, consistent. Domingo Santana also got on-base the hard way by getting hit by pitches twice.

Looking forward, Jed Lowrie is likely to continue his rehab stint with Lancaster now that CC is done. He's obviously not up to speed yet after his layoff since he struck out four times in four plate appearances last night. Yikes!

Lancaster has a quick turnaround and immediately gets the next round of their playoffs underway tonight! Blair Walters will be taking the mound and hopefully will be able to continue the JetHawks streaks of solid starting pitching.

Tri-City sends Brady Rodgers to the mound for game two of their series.
