Astros Minor League Recap: August 7,2012

Last night was a disappointment for the top two levels (including Houston). Both Houston and OkC last at about the exact same time. The offense had gone anemic for the RedHawks and the relievers had them chasing everything out of the zone and whiffing on high fastballs. It looked bad. It finally ended in true Astros fashion as Hector Ambriz gave up a walk-off home run in extras.

In other disappointing news, Matthew Heidenreich gave up five runs without recording a single out in his start for the Astros. He threw 31 pitches and didn't record a single out. You see that from time to time with relievers but that's a first for a starter. At least Adrian Houser performed better, but he gave up eight runs and didn't make it out of the 5th.

As for good news? Marc Krauss and Bobby Borchering both drew two walks and Preston Tucker posted his second home run for the season.

Oh yeah, pitching news. Ross Seaton had a solid start in his second stint at OkC. It's hard to complain about any part of his stat line besides being pulled in the fifth. Mike Foltynewicz limited his to just just two but still put for more runners on with four walks. But hey, he cranked those strikeouts up there. Joseph Musgrove and Lance McCullers Jr. both made their Greeneville debut and McCullers was the more impressive one. He seemed to like the number four with four innings, four walks, and four strikeouts.

It's hard to find much excitement with a DSL team, but I think Samil De Los Santos steals the show. I'm not excited, but I am intrigued. He's 18 and tall while striking out people at a rate over 9 K/9.
