This season, we have discovered that the Pacific Coast League is a little bit rougher of a league than the International League for pitchers. Despite this, there are a lot pretty neutral parks that the Oklahoma City RedHawks play in, their home park being of them. In fact, according to data from last season, OkC suppresses home runs more than any other park in the PCL.

So, I wasn't really surprised to see that Brett Oberholtzer threw a very good game last night and it was a home game. Take a look at his home/away splits:

Home-2.29 ERA, 6 GS, 39 1/3 IP, 30 H, 12 R, 10 ER, 3 HR, 12 BB, 28 SO

Away- 9.42 ER, 6 GS, 28 2/3 IP, 51 H, 31 R, 30 ER, 10 HR, 4 BB, 21 SO

I don't know how to really decipher that. His BB/SO ratio is much better on the road which would make you think he's pitched better on the road which is obviously not the case. His WHIP is much higher on the road which is a driving factor for his worse numbers. The home runs stick out. Eight of those then home runs have come in two games, one was at Memphis and the other was at New Orleans. Now, here are those park factors for those parks based on last years data: Memphis-85; New Orleans-89. Oklahoma City was the one with an 83, so we are talking about parks that can suppress the long ball. See why I'm scratching my head?

We are still dealing with a small amount of data for his splits, but I don't think we can just point to the PCL being rough on pitchers for his splits. His last three starts at home have been encouraging. I would even go as far as saying his last four total, since the other start in there was in Tacoma which has a very talented line-up. I am actually going to see them tonight.
