I don't know about all of y'all, but I expect most of the same next season as season as far as wins and losses go. I think the Astros are a few seasons away. I'm not saying that the Astros should tank next year or just give in to the likelihood that they probably will be a bottom of the division team again. My plan just fills the gap between the bridge until our young guys are ready to come up and play in a few seasons.
Roy Oswalt--Sign
Jake Peavy--Sign
Ben Sheets--Sign
These guys are OLD in baseball years, but I'd say bring them together on the Stros for on last HURRAH!!!
Peavy is under contract next season with the White Sox, but its a 22 million dollar Club Option, so I think that its likely that he becomes a Free Agent. Didn't Roy-O lobby the Stros brass a few years back to go out and get Peavy. Ben Sheets also won Gold together on the same team with Oswalt in the Olympics. 3 guys that could help us next season without hurting our rebuild plan and probably wouldn't be all that expensive compared to other Free-Agent pitchers. These pitchers can give a wealth of help and pitching know-how to our young pitchers too. Sign them all to 1-2 deals that fit into the rebuild time frame.
Sign Lance Berkman to 1B/DH 1-2 year deal
Sign *Torii Hunter to a High-Price 1 year deal.
Sign Catcher AJ Pierzynski to a high price 1-2 year deal
Sign Melky Cabrera to a long term, big money deal. We will most likely have to overpay, but you almost always do these days. Thats baseball. Cabrere could fit into the long-term plans of the Astros.
Relief Pitchers-Sign Octavio Dotel and JP Howell.
My 2013 plan is ridiculous. I might be the only person to think that this would be a decent idea. I think that this plan while costing a substantial amount of money, wouldn't hamper the development of any of our young guys and give us a 1 year window to contend next season.
It would also be a fun lineup and likely put more fans in the seats until the Astros are back and ready to contend on a yearly basis again.
*--Hunter Pence could be substituted for Torii Hunter.
Thats all I got.
