There's been some discussion in a couple of recent threads about whether the current policy of a 1 rec threshold for green comments is a good idea. The poll follows after a few arguments on my part for increasing the threshold.
1. It’s just unusual to have the setting at 1, and I’ve seen several comments on competing baseball SBN blogs (I used to read competitors’ blogs pretty often) making fun of TCB for having a 1-rec threshold. Not that the mockery itself bothers me, but I think they actually have a point.
2. When you know that it takes 3-5 recs to make a post green, then you know that reading a green post is probably worth it, one way or another. If the threshold is upped to something like 3 recs, I think everyone will feel free to rec whatever they want, for whatever reason (because it's funny, it's right, it's insightful, it annoys BustaPozee, etc.). This helps a LOT for those of us who sometimes have to skim part of a game thread after joining midway through the game.
3. I think the current 1-rec policy discourages the widespread use of rec's because you know that if you rec something, it's immediately green. I know that I typically just don't rec comments on TCB, while I feel free to rec lots of comments on the MMA blog I follow, where the threshold for a green comment is 5.
What do you all think?
