Astros Minor League Recap: August 1, 2012

This is going to be brief because I spent most of my time working on another article. It posts just after this one, so you'll have plenty of content to discuss today.

But, he went into the off-season with a vengeance and lost a lot of weight and came to ST in shape. He didn't make a full season roster but was called up in May to join Lexington. He started off slow and looked a lot like he did the year before. Until he got that first home run of the season, and he hasn't looked back since!

He is fourth on the team in HR's with 11 despite playing twenty games less than team leader Mike Kvasnicka (15) and forty games less than Zachary Johnson and Matt Duffy (both with 13). In his first 21 games, he had an OPS of just .562 but has since turned that around into an .868 OPS which is second in active players to Nolan Fontana's .951 in 22 games. Miles Hamblin has them both beat with his 1.833 OPS in just two games, but he's in Tri-City.

His BB% is above league average at 11.4%, but he also strikes out more often at 22.9%. He can also steal a base every now and then since he has nine SB while being caught three times. He's also hit three triples and thirteen doubles.

It'll be interesting to see if he gets challenged with the rest of the prospects that Luhnow plans to have promoted in August for a short challenge. His numbers aren't completely eye-popping, but you can't help but walk away impressed since he started off as slow as he did.
