Houston Astros Exit Milwaukee With A 7-5 Win Over The Brewers

MILWAUKEE, WI - APRIL 25: Chris Snyder #18 of the Houston Astros is congratulated by J.D. Martinez #14 of the Houston Astros after scoring a run during the game against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park on April 25, 2012 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Astros defeated the Brewers 7-5. Having rewarded Brad Mills with a good showing Tuesday, Jose Altuve found himself in the two spot Wednesday afternoon. He didn't disappoint with the first four hit game in his career. At this point I'd consider him the favorite to represent the Astros in the Midsummer Classic.

Offense

Jose Altuve, who we've already discussed, scored three runs and drove in a run. J.D. Martinez was 3-4 with a walk, a run scored and three runs driven in. Both Chris Snyder and Brian Bogusevic were 2-4 with a run scored; Bogey actually one upped Snyder with a walk. Carlos Lee was 1-3 with two walks and both Jordan Schafer and Travis Buck collected hits.

Overall the offense was firing on all cylinders they did manage to strikeout 10 times but scored seven runs on 14 hits and four walks. Nice to see the offense pick up the pitching.

Pitching

J.A. Happ did what a back end of the rotation starter is supposed to do, keep your team in the game. If you're expecting more from him you will be disappointed more times than not. Happ pitched five innings striking out eight and allowing four runs on seven hits, two walks and two homeruns.

Wilton Lopez followed Happ striking out one in a perfect sixth inning. David Carpenter followed Lopez pitching 1.2 innings. His lone run came via a Cory Hart long ball and was pulled in the middle of the eighth inning in favor of a lefty on left match-up. It was supposed to be Wesley Wright against the left handed Travis Ishikawa but Brewers manager Ron Roenicke had other ideas, sending light hitting Cesar Izturis to the plate. Izturis would Bogey for the final out of the eighth inning. Brett Myers would allow one hit in the ninth inning to collect his third save of the season.

Defense

In the bottom of the eighth inning Bogusevic, with a runner on and two outs, made a nice sliding grab down the right field line in foul territory to end the inning.

WPA Player of the Game

J.D. Martinez had a .282 WPA. Chris Snyder wasn't far behind with a .277 WPA.
