It's not often, especially in the minors, that you get the same pitching matchup twice in a week. Last night was the second dual between Jordan Lyles and Cardinals' top prospect Shelby Miller, who is only a week older than Lyles. You may remember that Lyles out-dueled him earlier in the week, and you may not know that Lyles out-dueled him again last night. It's always nice to get the better of the Cardinals, even if it just Triple-A!

I haven't heard first hand feedback from Lyles start last night, but was told last week he was dealing early but started to tire later in his outing. As with most pitchers, he started getting up in the zone and barely made it out of the sixth earlier in the week.

Also in OkC, Fernando Martinez had a notable game. I mean, I guess you can say blasting two homeruns in a single game was notable. Fernando has gotten off to a very good start to the season and is showing some very good signs of being able to contribute as a regular eventually. Hopefully, he can keep this up and maybe be given the chance to show it at the ML level when he's ready and not when the Mets were ready.

The other big story is Jose Cisnero. His first start was a mixed bag full of deep counts, high walks, short outing, and pretty strikeouts, no runs, and just one hit. Last night was much better! Longer outing, still low hit total, lower walks, and even more strikeouts. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, this guy has a major league future. Night like last night are why. He has the stuff, he just has to control it and rely on it. He tends to try and get cute and paint the corners, and he doesn't have the command for that. He has the stuff to not have to. Sure, he'd be better if he could do both, paint corners, and get by on pure stuff. But, he's not there yet.
