The bench position battles are heating up. Both Angel Sanchez and Brian Bixler made statements in this game, coming through in key moments in the game. I'm trying not to give anything away so on to offense...

Offense

Bixler was easily the offensive star of this game with a 2-2 day with two runs scored, a stolen base, four runs batted in and a walk off three run shot in the 10th inning. He also tied the game in the bottom of the eighth inning. Sanchez was 2-3 with a run batted in that tied the game in the eighth. There were several other positive offensive efforts: Jose Altuve colleceted a hit, a walk and a stolen base; Carlos Lee was 2-4; J.D. Martinez continued to hit with a 2-3 day with a run scored; and Matt Downs didn't have a hit but walked and drove in a run on a sac fly. Overall the offense collected 12 hits and three walks.

Pitching

Livan Hernandez continued a strong spring pitching with five innings of shutout five hit baseball. David Carpenter pitched the sixth inning and allowed one run on two hits. Rhiner Cruz the Astros first rule five selection continued his in effectiveness allowing two hits a walk and one run in .1 innings, his ERA currently sits at 108. On the other end of that spectrum was Fernando Abad who relieved Cruz and finished the inning with a perfect line. Lucas Harrell pitched the eight and ninth innings allowing one run on a walk and three hits. Enerio Del Rosario in another example of why wins shouldn't be used to evaluate pitchers picked up the win after pitching the 10th and allowing two runs to score on three hits. Overall a decent day for the pitching staff, providing just enough to get the team two games over .500 in the Grapefruit League.
