As you are all aware this site loves advanced stats, sabermetrics, and classic stats as well. I understand what they all mean however I dont fully understand what they represent. Maybe I got that backwards, I understand how to calculate all of these stats and what they represent, however I am not sure when looking at ERA+ if it is good or bad with out referencing another player's ERA+.
I was hoping that the likes of Clack and others can help me and any other TCB'er out who has this same problem. I was doing research and try to find league averages for different stats. And different benchmarks. For example I understand that for ISO .145 is about average and .200 is outstanding, and .250 and above is probably getting a lot of MVP votes. So for those of you who are advanced Sabermaticians I was hoping that you can help those of us who are not out. Below I listed some different stats that I understand but when I see always have to reference another players' sheet to comprehend. I was hoping that you could explain them the same way that I explained ISO above.
Thank for all your help on this one, and if you have any other advanced stats that I forgot to mention please list those with an explanation as well. (I am not sure if all the stats I have listed are considered Sabermetrics, but they are not the run of the mill ERA, AVG, HR, etc. stats.)
Pitchers-ERA+, BABIP(for pitchers and hitters), BB%, K%,
Hitters-FIP, wOBA, wRC+, BsR, Fld, UBR, Spd, wSb, wRAA
I know its not a complete list, but feel free to add anything that you want. Thanks for the help.
