It's true that we are not going to be big players in the free agent market this year and that we are operating under what can be kindly called a constrained budget but we can afford Scott Podsednik. A Texas born, veteran outfielder, Scott certainly is no youngster but he has shown that he still has quite a bit of the speed that made him a major league stolen base leader and that he can still hit AL East pitching. Last year he signed a minor league contract with the Philles and just missed making the team out of Spring Training. Eventually, he was signed by Boston, traded to Arizona and then resigned by Boston after being released by Arizona. While not a power guy he is a very serviceable lead off hitter that can hit for average. I expect that he could be had for a 1 year, $1 Million major league contract. It might take that to get him to come to us as I expect there will be more than one team that will offer him a minor league contract with an invite. Scott also has demonstrated that when the trade deadline rolls around he is the kind of player that many teams would consider trading a mid range prospect for. What's there to lose. Let's sign Scott ASAP!
