Should we Trade Carlos Lee
We all give a lot of grief to Carlos Lee but he has been a good player here for 5 years now. We think of him as lazy and clumsy but he has posted good numbers and learned a new position late in his career. We are going to pay him 18Million, if we trade him we will probably get a poor prospect and still pay 10 to 12 Million. Why not just keep him for what most likely is the last year of his career. In Houston he has hit 128 HR, 500+RBI's, posted an AVG of .286, OBP of .338, and an OBPS of .824. He has hit roughly 30HR and 100RBI each year here. He is not Bagwell or Biggio or even Berkman, but he is El Caballo. We will always remember fans showing up with sombreros and stick horses, he should be considered an Astro great. We all say we want to trade him but why dont we just enjoy his clumsy style one more year.

1 more year wont really stop any “prospect” They only prospect that he may be taking time away from is Wallace. I wouldnt mind seeing Wallace in AAA, I think we all believe he needs to develop more. He has played horribly in the Majors so far, I dont know that giving him 600 major league ab’s next year will make him the prospect that we want him to be.
I remember an article where it was explained that
Carlos gave up his 10 and 5 rights in exchange for a limited no trade clause. It seems the national media has forgotten this but I remember the story was verified as being accurate, so while I have no doubt Carlos would block a trade if he can there are a limited amount of teams that he can be dealt to.
Of course knowing how badly he wants to stay close to his ranch he probably (lets say he had 5 to pick) picked Texas, Arizona, Florida, Pittsburgh, and Arizona. Texas because it is close, the rest because they are non DH teams with historically tight payrolls… basically he does not want to be traded.
Of course I could be wrong and I have no idea who he put on his approved list.
And that is another thing he doesnt want to be traded, he doesnt care about winning the World Series, he wants his remaining money, and he want to play in Houston because he has a ranch here.
Him not wanting to win a world series just really irritates me. It’s not even rational, but it just sort of represents my feelings. I don’t even think he’s bad or anything, but I just don’t ever want to see him. There had been tons of front office blunders and missteps before Carlos Lee, but he kind of represents when the Astros Jumped the Shark.
Only because they signed him for 6 years. Those first 3 years were great and so was last year. The 4th year was by far the worst and probably still will be after this year.
On a side note...
we had a conversation about how much Chris Snyder was signed for, he got 750K this year with 350K guarenteed.

One more thing on Chris Snyder: He can earn an additional $1.75M for PA bonuses and roster bonuses in 2012. #Astros>
I don’t really think this is too bad either, because it means that he’ll have been healthy and presumably productive.
haven’t read your thoughts or a single comment….but….the answer is….YES!!!!

i dont care if it's just a salary dump
Lance to the yankees was a salary dump and we got two players who have helped at the major league level. I would rather have a young guy getting paid the league minimum than carlos lee. Yes he’s productive. So was bourn. So was pence and so is wandy. But the astros are still a 100 loss team.

That depends
on how much salary the Astros are wiling to eat. Carlos is better than the 2010 version Lance Berkman.
Only in hind sight. The Yankees didnt know Berkman was going to play like garbage for them. They hoped he would play like he did for the cardinals last year, MVP level.
He was not good in 2010, with Houston or New York. Remember he was still battling a knee problem. I don’t recall anyone being excited about Paredes and Melancon coming back to us.
I should say not good for Lance. For your average player he was still good in a Stros uni. But the value wasn’t far off from Carlos Lee.
Yeah I misspoke on that. I should have said it was poor for him. Just at a glance it was his worst MLB season and was pretty comparable to Carlos Lee last year. It’s not a stretch to say Lee’s ‘11 was better than Lance’s ’10.

With Lance im sure that most teams felt if he played well he could play for a few more years. Does any think that this isnt Lee’s last year? I dont think that there is any way he plays after this year. The only team showing intrest is/was the Indians only because they felt like they could win the central with a little more power, now with Fielder to the Tigers, I doubt they will pursue Lee with much intrest from here on out. And if they do they would basically want him for free.
I agree on the Indians, and Lee pretty much kills any options either way. If the obstacles to a trade were similar to Lance’s, we could probably get a decent relief arm and a low level guy.

Should we trade him......
…yes…..can we trade him…..maybe not. He makes a lot of money for the contribution he is making on the field. It would have to be a mid season deal in my opinion.
Lee and Wandy to NYY for Burnett and Betances. NYY finishes their rotation, fills their DH need, and gets something for Burnett. Houston gets a shot at a Burnett reclamation and gets a top prospect.
that’s a creative idea, but I don’t think it’s realistic from the Yankees’ side. The Yankees do not need another starting pitcher. They have Kuroda and Pineda. They arguably have one of the better rotations in the AL now. And, reportedly, the Yankees have never liked Wandy pitching in the the AL East anyway. The Yankees already have the RHB side of the DH filled up. I think Lee would be a better fit for them if he was a LHB. I don’t think that Betances is available either. I agree that the Yankees would really like to get rid of Burnett, but I don’t think it compels them this much.
I do think there is a decent chance that Burnett has some type of rebound season, particularly if he returns to the NL. If he were pitching for the Astros, I would really feel bad that Arnsberg was let go. Burnett’s best seasons seemed to be with Arnsberg as his pitching coach.
I agree that it’s not realistic. The overwhelming odds are on Lee being an astro this year. But one thing I wonder is if Luhnow has any added incentive to move lee to give Wallace the 1B job since he drafted him in STL.

I have seen some mention of perhaps lukewarm interest in Wandy by the Red Sox. That may depend on whether Oswalt signs with Boston or goes elsewhere. Just have a hard time thinking of a good match for Carlos Lee, though.
The fact that Lee has some say-so in the matter muddies the water. I’ll be surprised if any trades are made. If there is a trade involving Wandy/Myers/Lee, to me it will further cement that Crane gave Luhnow a hard core lower payroll mandate.

Lee has been a great Astro
And it sucks that the fans give him so little credit. But if they can get ANYTHING for him, they should. That’s what needs to be done on a rebuilding team.
Lee is “not receptive” to waiving his no trade clause, according to Nick Cafardo, the Red Sox beat writer.
A Carlos Lee trade falls in the cstegory of “I’ll believe it when I see it.” With the Tigers signing Fielder, there really aren’t good matches for a trade. Then you have the contractual impediment that probably prevents a trade to a AL team.
I think that Fielder going to Detroit might have had a team like Cleveland hitting the breaks on going for it this year. Not sure if Lee had him on his available list either. I can’t think of any other team that would seem like a fit.

"Should we Trade Carlos Lee?"
Is this even a question….
"Hakeem couldn't kick your ass cuz you were too
close kissin his!"- Sir Charles to Kenny Smith.
The Red Sox traded their shortstop
You think we can convince them that Carlos can play short? ;)
After all, the Tigers think Miguel Cabrera can play third base. El Caballo at short isn’t much more laughable than that.
(Yes, I know the Sox are trying to stay under the luxury tax threshold. This is a joke.)
