According to MLB.com, Jonathan Singleton is the third best 1B prospect in baseball going into the 2012 season.

I think he's better than Alonso or Rizzo

I think both of those guys can be solid regulars, I don’t think either of them will be franchise players. Singleton may or may not become a franchise first baseman, but he at least has a decent chance.

So basically I’m saying he’s the #1 first base prospect in the minors. Keeping mind that the current stock of 1B prospects is not that great.

This is a big year for Singleton.

Has to turn that supposed 60 power into HRs. He should blow up in the Cal League. I think 25-28 bombs should be the floor this year.

Why do you think he will repeat Lancaster?

He got 530 PA in A+ last year, and performed pretty well… I’ve been assuming he will go to AA.

I think that their floor played a big role and them being ranked higher. While the questions about them being stars are greater, they are more likely to regularly contribute. There are still questions surround Singleton and is still at least a year away. He has a much higher ceiling, but his floor is lower as well.

I agree that it's about floor

I just think Singleton’s ceiling outweighs it, especially as a first baseman. The more I’ve thought about Singleton’s game the less I worried I am about his floor, anyway. I keep coming back to the same thing I’ve always liked about him—to have the kind of plate approach he has at his age is very special. People underestimate how impressive his BB/K rates are when you adjust for age.

I feel his ability to get on base will make him at least an average 1B even if the power is only league average. The fact that he could be a 35 HR guy if everything clicks is what elevates him beyond Rizzo, Alonso.
