Some Video of Astros Prospect Jamaine Cotton

I was editing videos today of various prospects, including Astros prospect Chris Lee, and came across some video on Jamaine Cotton pitching for Greeneville. I don't really have much to add scouting wise on Cotton. Fastball/Slider guy. Really the only reason why I video taped him was his place of birth, the Virgin Islands. He was sort of what I expected, a very raw pitcher. I just thought I would be seeing a guy with plus velocity. I was disappointed. For what it's worth, I believe he was the winning pitcher.

I know nothing about him,

but he did have a good year, and based solely on his stats and how he was used this past season, I think he’ll likely be in a rotation, either in Lexington or Tri-City.

Question: you say you were disappointed in his velocity—-what was the range in his velocity (if you know)?

Well

I simply didn’t write down his velocity. Considering I tend to write that stuff down, even for players that I wouldn’t consider writing about or taking video of, I’m kind of disappointed in myself.

I was only disappointed in his velocity compared to what I’ve heard about other Virgin islanders such as Akeel Morris and Cotton’s brother, Jharel. I was right next to the Greeneville players taking down velocity. I was expecting a guy to come in throwing mid 90s and I most likely saw a kid throwing 89-90, which is the usual course in the rookie leagues and the Low A ball leagues.
