I hope that we don’t see the Cardinals with a celebration in MMP today.

Astros put themselves in a hole, allowing the two infield singles to third base to begin the game. Then the meat grinder part of the batting order came up with no outs and runners on base.

I'm going to miss the big elephant after he retires.
HOUSTON — Astros slugger Carlos Lee reiterated Wednesday night what he first said a year ago, hinting that he might retire when his six-year, $100-million contract expires following the 2012 season, citing family reasons. Lee, 35, entered the final game of the season with 94 RBIs.
“I want to spend more time with my kids,” Lee said. "This business, it’s kind of tough to spend more time with the family. People don’t realize that when [the team is home], the kids are at school. When you get up, they’re already gone, and when you come back, they’re sleeping.
“To see your kids Friday, Saturday and Sunday is tough. If I had to really decide now, I’d stay home.”

Welcome to the reality of having a JOB there Carlos
"This is a simple game, you throw the ball, you hit the ball, you catch the the ball, you got it?!"
Carlos Lee is getting 18.5 mil next season
The greater Houston area population is by all accounts between 5-6 million. Lets round that down to 5 mil…. if we could get everyone to donate 3 dollars and 70 cents we could buy him out and he could retire a season early. Sounds good to me.
I would not be against this.
He is not a bad person, but he’s taking up a spot that could be occupied by either Brett Wallace, Matt Downs, or like Timmy suggested, Chris Johnson.
I really do not think CJ's bat will ever be better than below average on the whole
simply because his contact rate and strikeout numbers will always keep him from having a decent OBP… but I have always thought he would make a decent “power bat” off the bench sub for COF/CIF.
Well probably 10% of those 5 million are baseball fans, and after this Astros’ season, maybe 3%. So good luck with that.
by clack on Sep 28, 2011 9:38 PM CDT up reply actions 1 recs
So if we went with the 10% it would be $37 a piece
and if we went with the 3% it would be the $123.33
I dont think we could get over $100 out of anyone but the $37 might be doable… all of this is tongue and cheek but I still think he is actually trad-able anyway. Dont laugh… Fangraphs says he was worth $13.5 mil this season… I think that is absurd but say he is worth a little less than half of that $6 mil… I think eating $12.5 mil of his deal and trading him (dont really care for what) is well worth it. $6 mil can go a long way in stop gap players (with potential trade value) or prospect acquisition… I imagine we will be trading Wandy and Myers as well so we should have plenty of cash to really get our rebuild of the system going.
Oh, I know it was tongue and cheek, and my response should be taken the same way. I’m just saying that I know a lot of non-baseball fans who care so little about the Astros that they wouldn’t give 37 cents to pay off Lee; in fact they don’t know who Carlos is and don’t care.
I think Carlos Lee might be tradeable next year, but perhaps at the trading deadline if he continues his second half 2011 performance into the first half of 2012. This also depends on his “no trade” list. Lee had a fairly decent year, particularly when you take into account his age. He beat his ZIPS projection which means that we got more from him than expected. I also give Lee credit for working on his defense so that he was no longer a defensive liability. Given Lee’s comments about wanting to be around his kids, I don’t think he is a good candidate to waive his limited no trade list.

And thats the season ladies and gents
MAYBE this ass kicking will motivate these youngs guys to work their asses off in the off season and come back bigger better faster and stronger.

Honestly Paredes, Altuve, and Martinez
could possibly stand to go to AAA if stopgaps (guys who could be traded for minor pieces if they perform) are signed on the cheap.
They all need to work on their approach at the plate… not a single one managed an OBP above .330. Granted it was a small sample.
Same thing with some of our young pitchers, I know we are excited about them being in the majors and all, but some things are easier to work on in the minors.

Hearing the Sports Center crew say that Valverde is the best closer in baseball. He was 49 for 49 in saves this year, which set the AL record.

Some Boston fans were screaming from the first game of the series because the Yankees have played so many minor leaguers. Pretty stupid though.

That was the first Astros game I went to all year, and it’s still the most exciting game I’ve ever been to. Gave me chills.

I'm on the bandwagon
I’m willing to admit it, I want the Rays to go all the way. The did this without Pena, Crawford, and more, and a $41 million payroll. One downside is I can’t imagine Andrew Friedman coming to Houston after this…

It's so hilarious, because Crawford kept taking pot-shots at the Rays organization...
And now his overpaid butt gets to watch that same organization in the postseason, from the comfort of his luxurious living room.
And Crawford will be public enemy no. 1 in Boston because he dropped the catch that would have gotten the third out and given the Red Sox the win. Maybe not fair, because it wasn’t an easy catch, but Crawford won’t be given the benefit of the doubt because of his bad season. Crawford may find out how Bill Buckner felt in Boston.
