Stuff About Our Beloved Astros
Ultimate Astros " Should Astros explore a Tejada return as a NRI, role player?
Chip Bailey wonders if the Astros should explore signing Tejada to a reserve role. My initial reaction is "Really?" Then I realized it is the Astros and they've said they like a veteran presence on the team. If the Astros decide not to resign Jason Michaels again Tejada could be an option.

Do you like this story?
Comments
I had previously read Chip Bailey’s blog promoting the idea that the Astros should sign Tejada as a utility player next year. I wondered when we get a reaction here at TCB.

A couple of notes on the instructional league list
First, Vincent Velasquez makes an appearance on the pitchers’ list with the notation, “returning from Tommy John surgery.” We have had a lot of comments like “have anybody heard anything about Velasquez.” This seems to indicate that Velasquez is moving forward.
Second, the signing of Alan Abreu last week is intriguing. He is an undrafted free agent out of little Lander University. The interesting part is that he is a shortstop/CFer who will be converted to a pitcher in instructional league. They must have liked his arm a lot if they are willing to sign him as a pitcher.

Brandt Walker tweeted the other day that his hand hurt from throwing with Velasquez, so there’s another good sign.
I like it. Who is Brandt Walker.

Yay!
Velasquez is back! Now what are we to expect from him?
How many pitches did he have before he went down? How has he used this time to his grow as a pitcher?
A lot of SS’s have really good arms so I’m not surprised that one is converted, especially with the Astros, as they do love their athletic pitchers.

I guess Mills is trying to convince Clint Barmes to re-sign with the Astros by losing playing time to Angel Sanchez.

So do they play games in the Instructional league?
Against each other or other clubs? Never really followed it.

They do play games and I believe they do play other teams. It’s not a league that posts stats as it is more of a learning environment than a competition.
