Post Trade-Deadline Astros Top Prospects (Updated Aug. 16)

The influx of new talent into the Astros system, along with the recent graduations of Jose Altuve, JD Martinez and Jimmy Paredes has motivated me to compile a list of the Astros top prospects to get a feel for how the new guys slot in with the existing prospects. Earlier this summer, I wrote a post that posed the question: Do the Astros have a mid-tier farm system? I think I concluded that if Jose Altuve continued at his hot pace and the Astros made a few good trades, the system could be ranked somewhere in the 18-20 range. However, I think if Altuve, Martinez, and Paredes lose their prospect eligibility, it would be hard for the system to be ranked that high. Still, there are plenty of talented players in the ranks. Though the system will probably be ranked in the bottom third of the league again this year, the system, through a solid draft and a few trades, has made another step in the right direction.

For this top 25 list, I have assumed that the Astros will get George Springer signed (This could blow up in our face). But I haven't included any other unsigned players. However, I think it is becoming more and more likely that Jack Armstrong will sign. If he does, I think he would slide in somewhere around Paul Clemens and Adrian Houser in the 10-12 range. I haven't included any players currently in the GCL or the DSL because I am not very familiar with those guys and I'm not really sure what to make of their stats. My favorites, though, on those two teams are Javaris Reynolds OF, Teoscar Hernandez OF, Jaun Santana SS, and Reymin Guduan LHP.

Anyways, on to the list.
