The next two months could be a lot of fun for Astros fans. No expectations. No worries about trades. Just these prospects we've been obsessed with for months doing their thing in the majors. It's like we're watching MiLB.TV, but it's on real TV.
That's not an attempt at snark, it's me being happy. This is the perfect game for prospect followers. J.D. Martinez busted out in a big way, hitting his first home run and going 3 for 4 with four RBIs. Jose Altuve and Jimmy Paredes both had two hits without showing the least sign of being overmatched.
Oh, and Jordan Lyles finally got the first victory of his career. Only 510 to go until he catches Cy Young. I probably care less about wins than any other stat in baseball, but it's still a stat and it's still something I think has some importance. It just doesn't dictate how good a player is. The same goes for RBIs. Jordan Lyles hasn't been terrible. In fact, he's been very, very good (especially with his lack of walks). He just hasn't had a lot of luck with wins.
Plus, the Astros took a series from the Reds, which they didn't get much opportunity to do last season either. I don't know that this particular team will finish with a flourish like others have, but I can definitely see this young team playing well with no one thinking they can.
If only we can get Dallas Keuchel or Austin Wates up here to join the party...
