Let's talk this through.
Paul Clemens has been lights out since joining the Astros organization. Henry Sosa was lights out in the minors since joining the Astros organization.
Clemens has thrown four games for Corpus Christi, allowing four runs and three earned runs in 25 2/3 innings. Henry Sosa threw three games for the Hooks, allowing seven runs (six earned) in 18 2/3 innings.
Clemens struck out 22 and walked 11 for rates of 7.71 K/9 and 3.84 BB/9. Sosa struck out 8.19 K/9 and walked 1.92. Clemens had a stronger fly ball tendency at Corpus and so did Sosa.
If you're comparing the two pitchers, Clemens has a slightly lower K rate and much higher walk rate, but has been just as effective in a short time span. The question is, does Clemens need a start at Triple-A before taking a spot in Houston's rotation?
I'm not saying I want to see Clemens in the rotation, which will just be weird. Honestly, another Clemens pitching for the Astros? Weird. At any rate, with the rate that Wade has been sending his trade booty to the majors and with his recent comments that we'll see parts of the Bourn trade soon, there's at least a slight chance Clemens will be considered for the rotation spot. Do you think he deserves it? Do you think he'll have a shot to perform well if given that shot?
