Wandy to NYY idea?

I really do not believe Wandy's money should be an issue to go to NYY and I even believe they should take on all or most of the contract. Fact is Wandy will do better there than AJ Burnett who makes a heck of a lot more than Wandy.

I think we should try to get Hector Noesi and Brandon Laird for Wandy if they take over most of all of his contract...

This would give us another strong prospect pitcher in Noese and a 3B upgrade to Chris Johnson. We currently have no one in our system at 3B (unless Clemens some house improves a lot and can take on the hot corner)

Not sure I agree with dealing Wandy

His scenario is different from Pence and Bourne in that we would be giving up a pitcher making pretty close to the fair market value if he were to go on to the free agent market. Thus, we would be losing a capable pitcher and not getting much for him other than salary relief.

Pence and Bourn netted us decent prospects because they were talented and cheap, thus teams had to pay a premium to get them from us. Unless the market really explodes for Wandy the cost/benefit doesn’t make much sense. He’s a pretty good pitcher. The difference from Wandy to say, Lucas Harrell, is a pretty big jump. To make that jump, we need to charge a premium which doesn’t seem to be out there at this time.

We have

Jimmy Paredes at 3rd right now.

really???

you really think Paredes is our long term solution at 3B??? I think Brandon Laird is a much better option….

We dont know if he is or isnt. He was only moved to 3rd a little over two months agon and has made

a leap in his defense there. His bat is something that I personally could project as that of a 3rd bagger potentially.

Ehh

I’d expect at least 1 player that’s in their top 10 prospect list

We would be...

Hector Noesi is a picture and their 7th best prospect.

I’d be all for trading Wandy to the NYY for young talent, though pitching talent would be my main aim as fan for the Astros.

I like Wandy-BTW.

I dont think we should trade trade Wandy unless we get a Pence type haul for him

..And that probably isnt going to happen. So we should just keep him. Wandy’s a legit #2, and he eats innings. Unless NY wants to give up Nova or Hughes, Id say no.

Same with Boston – I imagine Bucholz (now that hes on the DL) would be acceptable as well/ Dont laugh. Bostons primed for a WS run THIS YEAR (Wandy is not that far off from Bucholz) andthey could get desperate.

Boston's not giving up Buchholz for Wandy

He’s viewed as a negative asset right now because of his salary, but even if we picked up nearly all of the salary, Boston wouldn’t put Buchholz into a deal for him.

I wouldnt completely rule it out.

If they want to win a WS, and they are primed for it now, they might sacrifice a few cost controlled years of Bucholz for a steady Wandy. That is, if they ABSOLUTELY are desperate for a pitcher. Bedard and Lackey might not be enough for them.

I don’t think he’ll be traded. It doesn’t seem like the market is there. I’d much rather start next season with Myers and Wandy in the rotation and re-evaluate at the deadline. By then Houston will know more about their new prospects, their big league roster and what the organizational needs are. It’s also likely that both players’ stock will be much higher. If Myers reverts to last year’s form he will have a very high value as a rental since his contract is up after next year. Wandy will have one less year on his deal and should continue to put up solid #2 stats, so his value will be higher as well.

That said, I wouldn’t be opposed to keeping Wandy long term. He’s been an Astro forever, he was on the 2005 team, fans recognize him, he seems to be a good clubhouse guy, and a team this young will need at least 1 or 2 veterans around to keep things cool.

Yankees

I believe that if any team acquires Wandy it would be the Yankees. The problem is the Yankees staff is good right now and surprisingly has been all year. Both Sabathia and Burnett have been good. So has Freddy Garcia and Bartolo Colon. Hughes just had a promising start, and Nova has proved that he deserves a shot. Basically, for the Yankees to be interested in taking on salary and giving up a prospect or two for Wandy then two of their six would have to go down with an injury or become very ineffective. Even then they have Warren and Phelps that aren’t nothing to sneeze at. Basically I don’t see the Yankees being interested.

Not sure why the Blue Bays were interested in Wandy at the deadline. AA is very tricky, but very good at what he does so I’m sure there was a reason.

talking Bos-Yanks on baseball 2night now

steve berthiume is pushing wandy to yanks…when talking about their rotation, berthiume keeps mentioning wandy as a possibility

The Yankees and Red Sox are very good at blocking post-deadline trades to each other. They sniff out potential trades and try to block both sides of the trade with claims. I wouldn’t be optimistic about clearing Wandy through waivers.
