Last I remember from him
He was “outdueled” by Folty
by Its Gonna Happen on Jul 4, 2011 5:34 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
His stats don't lie though
He has impeccable control only surrendering 4 walks (freakin 4 walks!) In 45.2 innings while allowing 41 hits and striking out 42 batters. Dude is making a fool of A level hitters with a WHIP below 1.00 and Taillon should be well on his way to A+ or possibly AA like his 2011 draft counterpart Bryce Harper was today.

Dufek going tonight for Tri-City
Our 9th round pick this year. Hasn’t done anything eye-popping so far with the Astros.
shutout thru six
Five pitches in the sixth, all strikes, including a third DP; 74 for the game. 14 of 19 balls in play on the ground.
ValleyCats already into VT bullpen
Vermont starter Argenis Paez pulled after 1.1 innings, three walks and an HBP. ValleyCats up 2-0, man on and one out in the second.
I watched him on the ESPN app on XBOX Live. He had some funky mechanics if I recall correctly. Nothing especially troublesome and he seemed to be in control of his fastball and breaking pitch.
by SteveBartman_MVP on Jul 4, 2011 6:18 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
pretty good
Five hits thru four, but most haven’t been hit hard … three grounders, two clean line drives. Hitting his spots pretty well with fastball recently and commanding his curve well … though as I write that, he hits the leadoff hitter with an up-and-in fastball on 1-2.
Come on Meredith and Duff Man!!! Also looking to see if Hamblin is a real hitting prospect
by Its Gonna Happen on Jul 4, 2011 6:07 PM CDT via mobile reply actions
Duffy playing some great defense
Started three double plays, two of which looked like FCs. Made a couple other nice plays at third.
From what I’ve read, Duffy is supposed to be a good fielding 3d baseman.

Makin Waves in Latin America Baby!
The Astros have signed Dominican shortstop Luis Reynoso for $700,000.
Reyonoso, 16, is a 6-foot, 170-pound righthanded hitter who trains with Victor Baez and played in the Dominican Prospect League. Reynoso is the second Latin American shortstop that Baseball America has confirmed signing with the Astros since the international signing period opened on Saturday. The Astros also agreed to terms with Venezuelan shortstop Arturo Michelena for $220,000.

Video of Reynoso I love his swing.
If the Astros could show any sign of being ahead, rather than being behind the competition, maybe, just maybe the Astros will be good in the future.... Maybe
Looks like the Astros got a Fransico Lindor clone to me.

For a third of the price of a Lindor.

Kody Hinze isn’t in the starting lineup for the Hooks tonight. Are we sure he was promoted? I saw Austin Wates tweeted it, but Footer and McTaggart never tweeted anything on Hinze being promoted, which is strange, because they would if it were true, right?
by Stupendous Man on Jul 4, 2011 6:18 PM CDT via mobile reply actions
Footer re-tweeted Wates' tweet.

It’s legit, but he’s playing two more games in Lancaster, including tonight. They didn’t want to fly him to Arkansas then make him sit on the bus ride all the way back to CC.
Oh, okay. That makes sense. Good.
by Stupendous Man on Jul 4, 2011 6:24 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
Sounds like that tweet wasn’t supposed to get out and they wanted to make the announcement in a few days lol.

Well, they’ll gain a power bat in Hinze, but lose a growing one in Martinez. Thats four HR’s in the last seven games
I’m expecting Martinez and Keuchel to be called up to AAA. Time to face some of your garden variety AAAA pitchers as a final test before September or more than likely Spring Training.

Check his stats. Slash line of .345/.385/.562 in 09, but has struggled mightly with the bat in Corpus the last two seasons.

Bryce Harper already up at AA I see.
Good God he’s going to be good.

Im one of the believers in Villar.
I think hes still very young, in AA, and he will come around. Probably not this year, but next year I look for him to have a BREAKOUT season, I mean there will be no doubt hes our SS of the future/franchise player.
by YohannDookeyblue on Jul 4, 2011 6:55 PM CDT reply actions
Aren’t he and Mike Trout the only players in MiLB to profile with 80 speed on a scout scale?
by SteveBartman_MVP on Jul 4, 2011 7:08 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
Gary Brown
I remember Gary Brown was seen as even with DDJ on speed in the ‘10 draft class, he’d definitely be an 80.
Yeah he is blazing fast. I’m just surprised he lasted so late in the first round with 80 speed and his bat. Sabean knows his drafting.

Interesting/bonehead play in Tri-City: x23, two outs, Z. Johnson hits a grounder to third baseman, who goes for the tag instead of throwing across; Duffy gets in a rundown enough for Hamblin to score from third.
Nice are you watching the game or listening on the radio?

Well, he just made an error on a tough two-hopper to his left, but before that he was playing a really good game in the field. Started three double plays, two on balls I didn’t think they’d get two on.

three hits now
Could be four, one 50-50 play on a bad hop. Either way, not exactly solving their offensive problems: all hits were grounders that found holes, none hit particularly hard.
1st and 3rd no outs for Hooks.
I think we’re seeing the potential of this lineup now.

It will help when Hinze replaces Gaston
by YohannDookeyblue on Jul 4, 2011 7:52 PM CDT reply actions
I wonder if he could be Bourn’s long term replacement in center since Altuve seems to be on pace to be manning second base in the very near future.
by SteveBartman_MVP on Jul 4, 2011 8:26 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
I think yes
But has to get the bat going first. He is very similar to Bourgeois, who is very similar to Bourn
by Its Gonna Happen on Jul 4, 2011 8:34 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
Springer is a much better prospect than DDJ in my opinion
He should be a top 100 guy on most lists.
http://www.crawfishboxes.com
Agreed. He has the speed of Bourn with the potential stick of a Rickie Weeks. Hopefully he isn’t as dreadful on defense as Weeks. Both top 10 picks.
I think Delino could end up playing center which would move Springer to right or left depending on Hunter Pence. Possibly move JD to first if his bat continues to grow. All of this is contingent on bats performing up to their potential.
by SteveBartman_MVP on Jul 4, 2011 8:43 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
Haha that’s legendary big, I will pass on those kind of predictions.
by SteveBartman_MVP on Jul 4, 2011 9:10 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions

But TJ needs to be sent down a notch. I wouldn’t release him yet but a demotion is warranted

Off the top of your head
Anyone know whether Bell and Starling have/will sign?
by Its Gonna Happen on Jul 4, 2011 8:40 PM CDT via mobile reply actions
Bell wont sign.
Infact, hell probably play all 4 years for UT and graduate fully.
Education is that important to him.
by YohannDookeyblue on Jul 4, 2011 8:42 PM CDT reply actions
He is relatively young. If he isn’t producing with the bat at the MLB level quite yet, let him work on hitting in the minors.
The last thing you want is a young guy you feel isn’t ready, accumulating major league service time crawling closer and closer to being arbitration eligible. You rather him be producing at a level a top prospect should.
I haven’t taken a look at his stats, but I’m sure he probably isn’t doing very well if they sent him down this quickly. Maybe Furcal is back?
by SteveBartman_MVP on Jul 4, 2011 9:20 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
The only thing that bothers me is that I find this out after the deadline for editing my weekly lineup in the TCB fantasy league. I had Gordon as a utility player to try to get more steals.
by clack on Jul 5, 2011 6:46 AM CDT up reply actions 1 recs
i definately see deshields as andrew mcutchen, he has soooo much potential and hes only 18! he's gonna figure it out definately
He and DDJ both have a quick chopy swings, both very small and compact , both have reasonable power and really good speed.

Tal smith is the one who said that, not wade and mills.
by Subber10 on Jul 4, 2011 9:11 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
im just saying mills cause of today when he didnt pinch hit with1 out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, i understood why he did it but anuery would have been better, and when he didnt pinch hit for michaels in the 7th or 8th
also in an interview last year during spring training one of our local news crews was in florida and they interviewed ed wade about steele, shuck, and gaston………he was really bragging about how he had all the tools to be a nice major leaguer, and well mills, he just makes me laugh
They said this after he killed the ball at Lancaster in 09. He has the other tools, just the bat is always the question.

Yeah, no HR power, but hits for a good average, some doubles power, good on base percentage, not a lot of strikeouts. Best is probably a 4th outfielder. I wonder if he’s been tried in the infield?

He strikes out a bunch of folks, but has trouble with walks. You can see on a night like tonight when he has some control… he can be dominant.
