I had taken my son fishing yesterday evening after all the little shots of rain left the area and was not able to watch the game unfold, but, as usually happens something hits my line and the phone rings. Well, to make a long story short: the fish was not on the hook and the phone was on my ear. On the other end of the phone was my wife: "They just pulled Pence".
The tough part was now telling my 8 year old son that Hunter Pence had been traded. Pence is his favorite player. Pence plays hard everyday, every game and leaves it all on the field, and as a dad to have a son that sees that you have to work hard to get what you want and do things the "right way" is important and the way Pence plays the game shows all the young players out there that this is how it should be.
For a while he was upset, not that Pence was not an Astro anymore, but because we don't get to watch the Phillies games. Hopefully the Phillies will keep up the winning and we, in my house, can watch the playoffs and my son once again can watch his favorite player.
Now, though, it sounds like he may be jumping on the Jose Altuve bandwagon.
All in all: Good luck to Pence and the Astros of the North.
