Astros Can't Solve Westbrook, Lose 3-1
Another night, another Astros loss.. It's almost becoming a foregone conclusion that most recaps could begin with those words.
Brett Myers throws a solid game, but Jake Westbrook shuts us down? Hunter Pence, Carlos Lee, and Brett Wallace all had solid numbers against Westbrook, but the offense could only muster one run tonight.
Any positives from the game?
Well, Brett Myers' potential last start night as an Astro was a good one. He threw eight quality innings, allowing three runs with four strikeouts. He was able to get out of some big jams and work around 11 hits, and I thought he looked comfortable throwing tonight. Two of those three runs came on a very questionable Albert Pujols homer to center, and it's unfortunate that the umpires couldn't change their mind after the replay.
Carlos Lee is swinging the bat really well, but is there a chance he gets moved before Sunday? Probably not, but his recent performance certainly can't hurt his chances..
Bud against the Cardinals tomorrow night, let's salvage one.

Here’s what @cchooks manager Tom Lawless said of Xavier Cedeno’s bullpen shift: It’s a development move to make him a situational lefty.
Very troubling Tweet from Greg Rajan, Hooks beat writer.
I was just about to post that.
I think Cedeño’s talent would be better utilized as a starting pitcher. Hell, he could be like an older Mike Minor, or a Wandy Rodriguez kinda guy.
I previously thought it could be a way to keep his innings pitched down since he didn’t pitch last year & the last time he pitched over 100 innings was 2008. But the way Lawless worded that, it is very troubling that they would turn him into a LOOGY. I think that’s just wasted talent.

This is ridiculous...
The guy obviously has good stuff and we are going to try and turn him into Trever Miller.
They figure out a new way to piss me off everyday.

It may just be a way to limit innings

JD and Hinze mashing...
So good to see Hinze (sample size, I know!) picking up right where he left off…
Someone said a while back that he thought J. Villar could end up at .265 at the end of the year… At the rate he’s going right now, he may reach .265 by the end of the month.
Nice develpments on the double A front
I’ll be crossing my fingers and hoping some of these guys really elevate their stock next year at AAA ball.

Hypothetically...
Hinze’s BABIP is extremely high… however I think even with regression he puts up no less than a .900 OPS at AA or AAA with his on base skills…
If he were to pan out and be a stud...
He would now be the reference of a diamond in the rough over Mike Piazza. I’m obviously over stepping my bounds by a leap and a half though.
Or are you?
Hinze could be having a career year, in the minors.
Or, he has truly put it together and will be a solid first baseman in the future.
Walks are way up from last year, strikeouts are down, he’s hitting for a lot more power. If he was 20 years old, eyes would be popping open all over.

His BABIP will definitely drop, yeah.
Hopefully the walk rate will go back up to near its Lancaster level, though. That would more than compensate. On the plus side, his strikeout rate is actually down since being promoted to AA.

Blue Jays interested in Wandy
Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos, one of the GMs who inquires on virtually every available player, is pursuing left-hander Wandy Rodriguez, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Heath Bell and Ubaldo Jimenez are among the other high-profile targets for Toronto, Rosenthal confirms.

I posted this in the other thread but Brian McCann is headed to the DL with an oblique strain. So hes going to be out at least 15 days and obliques can be nagging injuries. It’ll be interesting to see if they ramp up their efforts for a hitter now that their best one is going to miss at least 2 weeks.
I looked at the video of Pujols' homerun blown call
And the umps totally blew it. If they would have looked at the head-on view, they would have seen that the ball clearly hit the padding, not the concrete wall. On the side view, since the camera was bluring the image of the ball, it made it seem like the ball was hitting the concrete, but it was an illusion of where the ball was at the time. If they took more than just the 4 wimpy minutes of looking at video & went frame by frame, they would have clearly seen that the ball hit the padding.

We're missing the point here
Meyers gave Pujols a pitch he could obviously drive. That alone means he lost that battle. We are petty to argue inches. Nice relay by Bourn though.

Astros County
Has posted that Cedeno will be in the pen for the remaining 6 weeks of the season in an effort to keep his innings down. He apparently did not pitch last year and only pitched 60 something innings in 09. If that is indeed the case it makes sense and I like the conservitive effort by the FO to not risk this kid. Also, if this is the case I expect him to be on the 40 man roster to save him from the rule 5 next year.

I dont buy
After what he’s done, that he’d be a situational lefty. If that’s his future in this organization, someone needs to be slapped around…HARD

Maybe. Clack had the idea the other day that if the Astros put him on the 40 man roster, he wouldn’t be a free agent.
I’m pretty sure that would protect him, unless I made a mistake in estimating his year’s of minor league service. And I think a guy in his position probably would want to stay anyway if the team were willing to put him on the 40 man roster, since that makes him eligible for the major leagues. That said, I think the Astros’ 40 man roster will be tight this off-season and I’m not sure that the Astros would put Xavier on it.
