Deal or No Deal?

Okay so as all of ya'll know, there are so many rumors floating around about different trades including Hunter Pence, Michael Bourn, Brett Myers, and Wandy Rodriguez. Supposedly Hunter Pence would most likely go to the Phillies and Michael Bourn would go to the Braves if they were traded. So lets say these deals come up involving Pence only right now, and later I'll add in the others.

Hunter Pence to the Phillies for: Dom Brown, Jon Singleton, and Cosart

Michael Bourn to the Braves for: Mike Minor and top SS at AAA. Pastornicky?? Don't know his name.

honestly

take dom brown out for starters. then worley, as he’s not the type that usually gets thrown into deals. would the phils do singleton AND colvin? i kind of doubt it, but it is an optimistic possibility i suppose.

They would never offer that. If it’s Philly, it’s going to be either Brown and one other non org top 10 prospect or a 3 prospect group of org top 10 guys without brown.

by Snake Diggity on Jul 22, 2011 7:26 PM CDT via mobile reply actions

Yeah lol, that’s a top 100 prospect, a top 50 prospect, a top 10 prospect, and a young pitcher with an ERA around 2(not going to stay that low). That is the true definition of a pipe dream lol.

Assuming we send the remainder of Pence’s salary along with him, I think we get:

Brown and Biddle

or

Mayberry, Cosart, and Singleton.

lol

I think nearly every Astro’s fan would jump at this, it is just too good to be true.

this deal would kill the phil’s farm system. They simply cannot afford to give away 3 top 100 prospects and a promising MLB starting pitcher.

Best case scenario is 2 of the 4 with a random prospect or two to make the front office look like they got a legit 4 for 1.

by clarkgagag on Jul 22, 2011 7:26 PM CDT reply actions

I think itll be Singleton. Biddle, Worley or Mayberry.

Id be okay w/ Singleton , Biddleton, May/Colvin/ Fransico though..

Seeing that if the Astros did trade away Hunter Pence they would need some high ceiling prospects in return, but pulling off a 4 to 1 deal is a little bit much. Let’s look at more of a 3 to 1 trade:
Let’s start with Brody Colvin (RHP: SP) – #3 prospect: He has a plus fastball, a very good curve and a changeup better than most at his stage. His delivery is a bit unusual, but improving. An early back problem sidelined him, but he’s part of a very good rotation in Clearwater now.
Then lets add Tyler Cloyd (RHP: SP) – AA.

2011 Pitching Statistics
Club (League) Class W L ERA G GS CG SV IP H R ER HR BB SO BB/9 SO/9 WHIP STK% G/F
Clearwater (FSL) HiA 3 1 2.75 13 5 0 0 39.1 31 12 12 3 7 39 1.60 8.92 0.97 — 1.88
Reading (EL) AA 3 3 3.38 10 9 0 0 56.0 59 23 21 5 6 48 0.96 7.71 1.16 69% 1.70
Minor League Totals 6 4 3.12 23 14 0 0 95.1 90 35 33 8 13 87 1.23 8.21 1.08 69% 1.77

Finally see if the Phillies will bite on Jon Singleton, but more than likely they would be unwilling to give up their # 1 prospect and if they won’t part with the prospects then keep Pence and allow others to make their deals.

The main thing is that the Astros do not have to trade Pence right now, but are willing and if they do then the Astros should be able to get a very good haul.

I would take that deal. Where would we put singleton? Do we let singleton take over 1st If wallace doesn’t improve in the 2 or so years it takes singleton, or put him in LF

by Woodlands'stro on Jul 23, 2011 2:31 AM CDT via mobile up reply actions

Id take that.

Though Id prefer Biddle to Cloyd.

Pene’s slump is not making this easier…

HIT PENCE!!!!

by YohannDookeyblue on Jul 23, 2011 4:13 PM CDT up reply actions

That’s way to much for pence as much as I like him. If you get offered Dom brown and another decent prospect you have to take it. Brown has super star potential and there wouldn’t be a better offer unless the braves get crazy and offer like vizcaino, minor, and some other good prospect

by Astro Dave88 on Jul 23, 2011 9:58 AM CDT via mobile reply actions

We're not getting both Singleton and Brown.

We’re only going to get one of them.

And Worley is off the market, apparently.

I would demand that they take Singleton out of the deal

For fear that MLB would veto the trade with that much coming to Houston.

On a different note, can I have some of what you’re smoking? You realize we’re not trading Jose Bautista, but instead Hunter Pence, right?

The ideal trade with the Phillies which I could actually see having a possibility of occurring would be Worley, Singleton, and Biddle. That would be a pretty solid win for the Astros without destroying the Phillies’ farm system. I guess my pipe dream, 0.01% chance of happening trade would be to get Brown and some young low level guys with a few tools who will probably never make the majors.

i like the worley, singleton, biddle idea

the only potential problem with it, is that the phillies would really have to think that his hot MLB start is 100% illusion and that no other team thinks he might be able to become a #3 type starter. if they value worley as just a B- type, and don’t think others might value him more, then this deal could happen.

Please don’t give the Phillies Hunter Pence. It’ll piss us off. Finally, a post on Talking Chop recognizes Michael Bourn as a “fallback” option if we don’t get Beltran/Upton. But please, make Ed Wade trade with us! For some reason, Frank Wren doesn’t want to part with any of our pitching prospects. Wren is like the one kid with 20 toys that won’t share.

how will it piss us off if we get the right guys and in a few years when they are done with their run we are about to go on one

the whole 12 games for the next 2 years are gonna be so unwinable because they have hunter

o wait they would kill us anyway cause they are a top ML team and we can barly win minor league games with ours

When he said “us” I think he was referring to the braves.

by Woodlands'stro on Jul 25, 2011 7:16 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions

Yes. I was referring to the Braves, as I am a proud Braves fan, and wish Frank Wren would hurry up and get Hunter Pence.

As a braves fan, whats the most you would give for pence?

by Woodlands'stro on Jul 25, 2011 10:49 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions

Minor is the biggest piece I would give up in terms of value to the Braves. I know if you guys got him he’d be immediately placed in your rotation because he’s better than Happ. But, there is some talk of wanting to keep Minor in the Braves’ system because he was a first round pick and he’s a left-handed pitcher.

How about Mike Minor, Andrelton Simmons (shortstop in A-level), and Christian Bethancourt (catcher in A-level)?

eh i think delgado has to be somewhere in there because we need pitching mroe than anything

and for the player he is i think we at least should get 2 good pitchers but i could be overvaluing him. Not big on minor for some reason

Minor and Pastornicky for Bourn.

For a better look from the Braves’ standpoint and prospect reviews, look at my post I made about the deadline from the ’stros and the ’bros.
