With the promotion of David Carpenter and other recent acquisitions (Kelvin Santana and Mikey Storey), I'm left wondering about the closing situation for the Astros in the future. Why are we hoarding all these minor league closers? Will they simply be converted to set-up and long relief roles? Is a potential Melancon trade looming? Is Melancon not considered to be the closer for the next few years? In opposition to the latter, I am compelled to reference his 57% GB (highest among MLB closers), 2.80 xFIP, and 92 mph avg cutter (2nd fastest in MLB).
