If the White Sox are Buyers

What do you all think about matching up with the White Sox for a trade of either Bourn or Pence.  I would think that the White Sox would have to be interested in both as long as they can hang in the race over the next few weeks.  Right now they have Juan Pierre starting in left and leading off.  Needless to say Bourn could really help them out offensively and defensively.  But they may actually like Rios in center since he doesn't seem to be too bad with the glove, even though he's on pace to suck again with the bat.  You want it we got it.  Don't need a center fielder, how about good defensive right fielder with some pop?  A middle of the order of Konerko, Dunn, Quentin, and Pence would cause some damage.

I don't really have any idea what the likelihood  of scoring any of their top prospects is, but I would be interested in Brent Morel and Dayan Viciedo...especially if he can play third at all.   Morel is already their main third baseman so I doubt they'd let him go unless they think they can replace him with someone like Viciedo.  Oh, and of course, pitching prospects would be fantastic, and it looks like they have some of those too.

Any of you know of good matches for our bottom-dwellers?  No Phillies!  Get creative.

Here's to hoping the White Sox go on run.  Even if we don't trade with them, I don't want them flooding the market with veteran players for contenders.  That's our gig!

Oh, and you should find this funny: I saw a Braves fan pining for no other than our Carlos Lee over on mlbtraderumors.

Don't know if I'd want Beckham headlining a package however

I agree that he’d be very interesting for the Astros but he’s not a guy that would make me trade Pence…. And I think you could get more for Bourn elsewhere (like an Atlanta SP).

Plus where does he play. We’ve got to give Altuve every chance to be the second baseman of the future and I believe Chris Johnson has better stats than Beckham…so unless you’re trading for defensive purposes …he doesn’t fit in.

Again, I like the guy…but I don’t see a good fit.

Agreed

Purely just for the purposes of this discussion about the White Sox. Their system seems to be heavy on position players as well.

There’s not really anyone in their system I could see being a headliner for a Pence or Bourn trade.

The White Sox have traded so many prospects over the last couple of years that I really wonder about their ability to return the quality you would want for Pence, Bourn, etc. And, given that they have traded so many prospects, you wonder if they would be reluctant to trade what they have now. Viciedo has been playing RF, but otherwise I like ntn’s idea for him. But it’s always interesting to contemplate trades with the White Sox because they usually aren’t afraid of trading.

If the White Sox are in the pennant race

Then I could definitely see them unloading Viciedo for a player to help them now. Viciedo is a good prospect but by no means untouchable b/c of his defense and inability to draw a walk. He’s actually a realistic possibility for the Astros to acquire and might end up being a similar player to Carlos Lee (the good years).

I still go back to my opinion that the White Sox don’t have what it takes to get Pence. Unless they unload all their young talent (Viciedo, Sale, etc…) which they won’t.

It comes down to the White Sox interest in Bourn and whether the Astros feel they could get more from another team.

The White Sox, of all teams, cannot get Pence!

I’m playing the 2013 season of “MLB The Show 2011” right now and guess who’s hitting in the two-hole for the’13 White Sox? Yep, Hunter Pence.

Sorry, but I think I’d rather see the Yankees get Pence than the White Sox. I just cannot stand the Southsiders after the ’05 WS!

My Astros fanship started last year right after Castro was promoted

Was on the news, and started watching some games. Been addicted ever since. I didn’t even know what a shortstop was at the time! Though it’s kind of an unhealthy addiction since the Astros are losing alot. But “I’m addicted and I just can’t get enough”. Or however that song goes.

If I could ever find the pics my folks took in the 70's of me all decked out in

my orange Astros batting helmet, raincoat, uniform, and holding my Jose Cruz team MVP bat(which was near full size and that I later got Mr.Cruz to sign) and also surrounded by all the pennants I had and still have you would see that not only am I now old but that I bleed Astro orange and follow them through crappiest season like this one.

Wahington Nationals

Let me start by saying I would like the Astros to keep Wandy, Pence, and Bourn. However, there are rumors that the Nats like B.J. Upton and feel like they need a lead off hitter and CF. Bourn it seems would be a good fit for them. There is no point in trading Bourn if you are getting Major Leaguers like Bernidina or Morse back. The Astros need pitching at every level so if Bourn is traded to the Nationals, I would like the deal to include a few arms.

To me, the best pitcher in the Nats system is Brad Peacock. He was drafted in the 41st round in 2006 but has dominated ever since. This year, he is 8-2 with a sub-3 era and 114 k’s in 87 innings.

Sammy Solis is another good arm. He was drafted in the second round last year. I really doubt the Nationals would part with Solis or Peacock. However, some reports say the Nationals are willing to pay for what they want…Do they want Michael Bourn?

These players might be more reasonable trade targets:

- Daniel Rosenbaum, a 23 year old RHP who is currently in class A+ Potomac. He hasn’t posted an ERA above 3.00 in any of his 3 professional seasons. He posts good K/9 totals. His numbers make an advancement to AA look possible.

- Paul Demny, also at high A, Potomac, this 21 year old RHP has good velocity and appears to be adjusting to high A ball. Demny is a former 6th round pick out of East Bernard, Texas.

- Tom Milone might be a year older, less highly regarded version of Brad Peacock. He is 24 and in AAA Syracuse. Last year in Harrisburg, Milone had a season that is comparable to the season Peacock is having this year in Harrisburg. Milone is holding his own this year in triple A, maintaining a nice k/9 ratio.

I also like the Nationals catching prospect, Derek Norris. Norris is struggling with his batting average, but is still hitting for power and getting on base at AA Harrisburg. Norris has been a BA top 100 prospect for at least 2 years.

If the Astros are interested in Major League ready players, I think 26 year old Jesus Flores would be a nice pick up.

for Bourn,

I would want either Cole, Solis, or Peacock

                                    and

either Demny, Rosenbaum, or Norris

                                    and

Milone or Flores
