Astros Minor League Recap

So, apparently Douglas Arguello was put back in the rotation as he was supposed to get the start last night in Oklahoma City's first game of the double header.  Unfortunately, he was placed on the DL right before the game and Jeff Fulchino was activated.  Wesley Wright got the spot start Arguello which makes me wonder what the real rotation is going to look like.  There are currently already five starters on that squad without Arguello, so somebody had to have been pulled out of it in favor of Arguello.  Take your pick from Hyphen, Sergio Perez, Van Hekken, and Chacin, of who was probably thrown to the pen.  My question is who is going to take Arguello's spot?  Is it whoever he replaced?  If so, why didn't they start the game?  Given that Dallas Keuchel had a very dominant start his last go around, is this the opening the FO needs to give him a shot at AAA?  Oh, how I hope so!

Folty

At least he is starting to put together some quality starts. Hopefully the dominating ones are right around the corner.

Is that right? Altuve started at third base last night?

Has that happened much this season, is his defense good enough to make him an option there?

Proverbial "he's too short" post

But actually, he is too short for 3B. With it being more of a “reflex” position, you want a bigger guy over there that can cover some space laterally and vertically.

When I think of a prototypical 3B, I think Scott Rolen.

Good outing for Folty.

Hopefully he can build on that.

Altuve playing third is a good thing to me. Maybe he’s just giving the normal 3B a day off, but if that wasn’t the case, maybe the Astros see their hole at third base with CJ having a terrible year. On top of the hole at third base, moving Altuve to third makes room for DeShields at second.

If this assumption is correct, I like this move.

Actually, despite the lack of runs, it doesn’t really look like that good of an outing for Folty. No strikeouts, more hits than IP, not a good GO/AO ratio, gave up a dinger. Those kind of numbers do not project well for the next levels. I’ve been really disappointed with Folty’s lack of K’s this year.

Yeah, I was actually going to say that the line looked like one of the worst possible 1 run starts. I’d really feel a lot better with some Ks.

Agreed

I’m a bit worried about Folty. Then again, he is a young cold weather arm with plenty of time to turn things around. But right now it looks like he is set to repeat A-ball like Bushue has done, and that’s a bit disappointing.

Only reason im not worried yet...

They at least warned us before the season that he was going to take time to develop because of the being from the north thing. But if he hasnt shown more improvmet then ill start worrying say in Aug

Firesale! Everyone must go!

Looks like Tanner Bushue is still having back problems.

Too early to tell on Folty.

Wierd they gave Altuve the start at 3B.

Chowning ready to move up.

Gervacio and Carpenter tearing it up.

Wikoff is never going to amount much to anything in the majors

Too much of a singles hitter. Maybe another Angel Sanchez. His strikeout rate is impressive though. 7 strikeouts in 133 at bats.

I could see him being a keppinger type guy, but I hear he plays pretty good d. That’s a pretty useful low cost utility player.

Anyone else

Wonder why Valdez can be, to say the least, effective against minor league pitching but gets lit up at the ML level?

One catcher who I would have liked to see convert to pitching

Pudge Rodriguez. He is by far the hardest throwing catcher (maybe even position player) that I’ve ever seen. When the Astros had him I remember standing on the wall in LF by The Pump and watching him stand by the wall on the 3rd baseline and throw all the way to the base of Towles Hill, the ball never getting higher than me. He would have been an interesting conversion.

Angels just released Scott Kazmir.

If there is any way we can get him (not sure about the AL 1st rights) then we should. Hometown kid, maybe just needs a change of scenery.

So sad...

He was such a good pitcher
