Houston....we have a closer problem!
How many more games does Brandon Lyon have to blow before Mills removes him from the closer role? You have Fulchino and Melancon who deserve a shot and there is zero chance that they will be worse than Lyon. I understand the expectations for this team this year is very low but unless I have miscounted Lyon has cost us 3 games and pilfered at least 2 wins after blowing saves. If we could get the 5 games in the win column that the bullpen overall has blown we would be at or near the top of the division.
Time for Mills and Ed Wade too get tough and show Lyon the door.

I would be shocked if Lyon continues in the closer role. Mills said that the press conference 10 minutes after the game isn’t the right time to address Lyon’s future role. I suspect we will hear more tomorrow.
There seems to be a closing problem within the Astros farm system too. Three of the four home games which the Corpus Christi Hooks lost we due to the reliefs. The record our relief core is 3-8. Our last two games against the Midland Rockhounds the pitchers couldn’t get that last out with two already away.
bp etc.
astros are doing a good job except for bullpen. i do not think abad is a major league pitcher! ditto for rosario and vargas?…. fulchino is doing his job…melancon looks pretty good…. lyons? not really a closer… is injured… when he gets back he needs to be eased into pitching and needs one or two appearances that have little meaning..then he goes back to 7th or 8th inning work…have we got anyone in the minor leagues…is this a training camp for a few of these guys?…maybe it is… i keep saying we can win nl central this yr…. if we had only 4 blown saves instead of 9 we would be 18-17?…almost in lst place?….we have lots of trade bait… hall, barmes, micheals,…for a real good relief pitcher…mike h
I agree....mostly
But there’s a problem. The three guys you mentioned as trade bait are either injured, coming off an injury or a strike out looking for a place to happen.
- Michaels would be a solid bench guy for almost any team and very tradeable. But he’s coming off an injury and may not be right for a few more weeks at best.
- Hall….just struck out again!…….is a swing and miss machine…..he just struck out AGAIN!!!
- Barmes is interesting. That’s a guy that could bring some serious attention but he’s been less than stellar at the plate so far himself.
Your most tradeable commodity is Bourgious (Sorry about the spelling if its wrong). That guy can play almost anywhere and he is a hitter. The problem for the Astros is he is our insurance policy in case Carlos Lee swallows his plate and spoon and goes on the disable list. You cant rely on Bogusevic right now.
At this point, none of those players would bring anything in a trade. Zero return.
Pence, Bourn, Wandy, and Myers are the only veteran players we have that could net anything of value in a trade.
IF Hall or Barmes heated up at the plate, they may be able to bring back a fringe prospect to a team in need of a replacement at SS/2B or a bench infielder.

Well at least one of our problems will be going away when the team
is FINALLY SOLD! About damn time too.
