Astros Minor League Recap

Yeah, my stuff is sick!

There was heck of a crazy game in Corpus last night that had a little bit of everything.  The hooks had three players leave after laying on the ground for several minutes on two seperate plays in the same inning.  First Dallas Keuchel and David Flores collided on a pop-up and both left the game.  Two plays later, Jonathan Gaston ,who came in to replace Andrew Simunic in right field as he took Flores spot at third, collided into a wall.  He left while holding a towell to a bloody face.  All three were taken to the hospital for evaluation.  I have yet to see any word on twitter on their current condition, but I hope all are ok.

On the positive side, the hopeful heir to left field in MMP, JD Martinez, gave the hooks fans a glimpse of what we all hope he can provide in Houston, a multi-hit game combined with a grand slam!  His OPS is now up to .994 and is establishing himself as a guy who can easily hit over .300, even at higher levels.  I think it's time for an open letter to the FO...

Dear Ed Wade and Bobby Heck,

This is in reference to JD Martinez and his ridiculous offensive statistics.  Please promote now!

Sincerely,

The Crawfish Boxes

I like to keep things short.

It was right behind the mound, so i guess he had a chance to take care of it himself.

I thought they were too. It’s strange that it was behind the mound and yet it was the third baseman in the collision and not the shortstop or secondbaseman involved. It would make more sense if was a pop toward the third base side and it was a shallow and low popup. but behind the mound makes it seem odder (is that even a word).

Not necessarily. They should be called off if anyone else can get it though.

Happened in a Yankees game on ESPN a few days ago. Rafael Soriano ran out of the way on a pop up right to the mound and no infielders could get there in time. Ball dropped.

Sutil came back with a bang

at 26, he needs to be in AAA as does JD.

I like the start, outside the walks from Arguello. He should be the 1st guy to get the call if Rodriguez fails in the 5 spot. He’s also the depth needed in case Myers or Wandy gets traded. Let me rephrase that, he’s the depth needed when Myer and/or Wandy get traded.

Sutil is hitting really well this year and is playing like he needs to be in AAA, but he got an opportunity last year and failed. I was able to watch him last year during his AAA stint, and while he’s quick and agile which makes him such a great defensive player, he didn’t have it at the plate. I understand why the FO is probably skeptical of his performance so far. His BABIP is .437, almost a hundred points higher than his previous high in Tri-City back in 2005.

JD's bat

JD’s skills remind me of Billy Butler’s. Good BA and doubles skills, with decent OBP and some HR potential. The main difference is that Butler got an earlier start.

I hope we can package a deal after the draft

Where we ship out some of the “non prospects” in AAA and pick up some low A players. Not really trading for talent as much as clearing the way for our up and comers
