Downs at 1B is surprising.

The only real complaint I've had of Mills...

Has been sitting Wallace vs Lefties. (If we have already given Wallace the “Platoon” tag, then we should give up on him and move on. Wallace can hit lefties!)

I also don’t buy the argument, “he was due for a day off.”

1. In ST when you are competing for a job, there are no such things as days off.
2. Mills did this last season, I did not like it.

there’s no loyalty involved

I’m tired of hearing the away team root louder than the Astros fans even at Minute Maid.

Wandy with good showing tonight. 1 run in 4 innings.

Apparently the wind had a factor in the run scoring triple for the Nats. So that another plus on Wandy. Very happy with him today.

There is hope after all… He’s gotten better each start.

He usually only does the first three innings and the last three innings.

Matt Downs hits an RBI Double. Nice.

Anybody thinking Fulchino won’t make the cut?

by Its Gonna Happen on Mar 10, 2011 7:59 PM CST via mobile reply actions

I am surprised that the Astros resigned him at all. He was awful last year.

by Brian West on Mar 10, 2011 8:08 PM CST up reply actions

I think he will be the high workload guy in middle relief. Fulchino had an elbow problem last season, and, if I recall correctly, he had surgery to clean out the elbow.

by clack on Mar 10, 2011 9:05 PM CST up reply actions

Fulchino

I think he will make the squad. He was great in 2009. Subpar in 2010, but pitched well toward the end of the season after coming back off the DL.

Pence just had himself a bad day

0-4 with the only 3 strike outs that Washington has recorded thus far. For some reason im a Wesley Wright fan.

by Its Gonna Happen on Mar 10, 2011 8:04 PM CST via mobile reply actions

Me too. Wright did well last September. But now he just gave up an RBI double. So, idk.

Ooh. 2 RBI Triple. That hurts. Ouch.

"the depth chart on the website lists Edwin Maysonet in the bullpen..."

by BustaPozee on Mar 10, 2011 8:13 PM CST up reply actions

Wow.

Did Wright throw a strike that was not a hit?

by MadMartygan on Mar 10, 2011 8:17 PM CST reply actions

Brad Mills definitely lets his pitchers clean up their own mess. I agree with that strategy, at least while the games don’t matter

by Its Gonna Happen on Mar 10, 2011 8:35 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

Any thoughts on who will be the loogy, as of right now?

by MadMartygan on Mar 10, 2011 9:07 PM CST up reply actions

Good question. None of the lefty candidates has looked that good so far. I’m guessing Abad will be the primary lefty and Ryan Rowland-Smith is the second lefty.

by clack on Mar 10, 2011 9:10 PM CST up reply actions

I could see that. I assume you’re thinking Figgy gets the 5th spot nod? I’d be ok with that. As much as I want the Lyles era to begin, I’d like one more year at AAA.

by MadMartygan on Mar 10, 2011 9:17 PM CST up reply actions

It’s early to tell, but I think Figgy has the lead on the 5th starter spot.

by clack on Mar 11, 2011 5:38 AM CST up reply actions

Astros win.

I only heard the end of the game, with Paredes scoring the winning run on a line drive by Dopirak.

Ironically, Wesley Wright has the worst pitching line and gets the win—as well as a blown save.

Bill Hall was the radio player of the game.

by clack on Mar 10, 2011 9:08 PM CST reply actions

Why does Wright get the win?

by MadMartygan on Mar 10, 2011 9:09 PM CST up reply actions

I stand corrected.

Ha, Ha! I saw the W. (for Wesley) after his name and thought it was a W for win.

Escalona got the win.

by clack on Mar 10, 2011 9:11 PM CST up reply actions

Just saw that on the mlb.com box score. Yeah that is a little misleading. haha.

by MadMartygan on Mar 10, 2011 9:12 PM CST up reply actions

I think it’s Escalona. He pitched the tied ninth.

by MadMartygan on Mar 10, 2011 9:11 PM CST up reply actions

Wins are always nice but...

the real positives for today were (surprisingly nothing involving Pence) great pitching except for Wright. Wandy did really well, really surprised me (4IP 4SO 1BB). We all know he’s capable of being dominant but im still surprised when I see it. Lyon Fulchino Wolf and Escalona all pitched shutout innings. Offensively we had several good showings. Both Downs and Barmes only went 1-3 but each had a walk, showing the ability to get on base. Bourgeois had a descent day going 2-4 but both hits were weak so im not happy. CJ retook the lead with 6 rbi’s but the star of the day was JMike going 2-3 with some clutch hits. And Corp went 1-2 and a walk to boot.

I am wondering if we’re going to see Carlos Lee at 1B any time soon?

by Its Gonna Happen on Mar 11, 2011 12:13 AM CST via mobile reply actions

The HC reported Mills as saying that Lee probably won’t get time at 1st until after Sunday (when the split squad season ends).
