Ha

Believe it or not, I had that picture emailed to me yesterday by Hicks’ mother. They’re family friends of ours from way back in my Pasadena days and she sends out an informal newsletter with links/updates on what’s new with Brandon.

Really hoping he can put it together this season.

Come on Barnette...

fix our boys and end our notoriously slow starts

A quiet first 3 innings

Braves lead 1-0.
Pence hit a triple but was stranded on 3B.
Bill Hall & Clint Barmes are both hitless through 1 AB.
Both Myers and Hanson looked pretty sharp through 2 IP, both giving up 2 hits and striking out 1.
Lyon gave up a run on 2 hits in 1 IP of work.
Rowland-Smith in to pitch the 4th inning.

by linkxmalon on Mar 1, 2011 12:53 PM CST reply actions

Rowland-Smith induces 3 fly outs in a scoreless 4th inning.
Barmes-Pence-Lee, presumably, are due up in the bottom of the 4th.

Was listening on the radio as I was running errands at lunch. Milo’s delivery of “That triple was wasted” after Carlos softly grounded out to the pitcher was one of the most damning things I’ve ever heard him say.

It’s amazing how much faster a game can go when you’re not giving up six runs in the second inning…

In other news, Hyphen!! Since I’ll look pretty foolish for assuming he’ll be the fifth starter, it’s nice to see him throw up a solid inning of work.

Nice frame for Melancon. Struck out Freeman and got helped out by Barmes. Pitching has looked decent today, except for that shaky inning by Lyon.

Do both of these teams have tee times later? This game is just zipping along… Bogusevic and Clemens ground out and fly out, respectively in the bottom of the fifth

The Braves haven’t had a base runner since the third inning and the Astros haven’t had one since Carlos Lee walked in the fourth. That’s 13 straight outs in the game.

According to gameday, Barmes just took 3 pitches in the exact same spot to get called out on strikes.

by Astrofan on Mar 1, 2011 1:31 PM CST reply actions

That’s why I think things are screwy with GameDay. It has the last seen non-strikeout batters out on one pitch. The two strikeouts were three straight strikes, too. Something’s up.

should have seen some of the things written on twitter last night

wouldn’t have known we’d just lost our first ST game. It sounded like we’d lost 10 games in a row by some of the flaming of the team going on.

GameDay on Astros.com is your best bet. It’s just being screwy today. During spring games, I try to provide running commentary here, too, for people who can’t run stuff like GameDay on their work computers.

Man...

…I know its just preseason, but I don’t like seeing our tepid offense just flailing away like this.

by BigMacFrys on Mar 1, 2011 2:39 PM CST up reply actions

Well we've lost our first two meaningless games...

The season is lost…damn the world! But seriously not bad pitching by most of the guys. Bourgeois Hall and Barmes and let me down a little but I won’t make any hitting judgements till at least this time next week. And really hitting (go figure) was our only weak spot. This is only the 3rd day of live pitching for our boys

by Its Gonna Happen on Mar 1, 2011 2:49 PM CST via mobile reply actions

We talkin' 'bout practice, man.

Nothing to worry about. ST is about practice, we are in practice mode (experimenting, learning, testing, getting in shape) not in competitive mode.

Cue in Iverson’s “practice” video.

Berkman

In case you hadn’t noticed this, Lance Berkman hit a HR in his first at bat this spring for the Cardinals. Opposite field shot off Anibal Sanchez.

Ya,thanks for bringing that up...

Why don’t you tell me that Paulino just threw 6 scoreless innings striking out 10 in his ST debut? Unrelated note: Anyone here about Oswalt?

by Its Gonna Happen on Mar 1, 2011 8:19 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

As far as I can tell, neither Oswalt or Paulino have pitched yet this spring.
