Let me first point out that this post is trivial. I do not believe that Young for Lee will happen but simply want to start a discussion as to why (maybe) it should happen (for both teams)... and want to talk baseball as everyone anxiously awaits the beginning of spring training. 

We all know by now the Rangers are looking for possible desintation to trade Young. Colorado seems like the favorite but there might be other teams involved. Here are reasons why it makes sense for the Ranges and (particularly) the Astros to expore the idea of trading Carlos Lee for Young.

Rangers

Carlos Lee would be a great fit in that lineup, ballpark & AL .... and they'd be saving money. It's rumored that they will have to pay a substantial amount ($20 million) to whatever team trades for Young. Although the Astros would demand money in return, Lee is probably the best player they could receive and they wouldn't have to pay $20 million. Lee would be an ideal platoon at first base with Mitch Moreland. On days where they play against a LHP, 1B-Lee, DH-Napoli, C-Torrealba. Vs. RHP, 1B-Moreland, DH-Lee, C-Nap or Torrealba. Lee has already played well (for a half season) in Arlington and it would be the best situation for him to succeed.

Astros  

I already mentioned money for the Rangers but it fits for the Astros as well. In what other situation could they trade Lee and potentially receive money and a valuable player.  

The Astros would get a leader for the young players. Young is no doubt a better leader than Lee and that might be his most valuable asset to Houston. We would also be improving the defense. My guess is Young would play 2B and Hall would move to LF. Of course you also have 2 players (Young & Hall) that can essentially play any position on the diamond besides pitcher & catcher.

The only hesitations for the Astros is the inevitable loss of power in the lineup and the extra year on Young's contract. The extra year could be offset with money received from Texas but the loss of power would hurt. The lineup would have a hole in the middle but (again) if Young could help guide Castro, Wallace & Johnson in hitting and improve the defense then I believe the positives outweigh the negatives.
