Astros' System "All 20 Years Old or Younger" Team


An Bleacher Report article linked by Astros Daily featured a top 10 list of Astros prospects 20 years old or younger, and it got me thinking about Houston's collection of super young prospects, so I put together an imaginary 25 man roster comprised of Astros prospects who fit that description:

To me, that's quite a list; not sure how it compares to other teams, but the solid collection of position players and high ceiling starting pitchign struck me in a positive way.

2B Delino DeShields Jr. Rookie Level Greenville Good start in debut; should be in Lexington in 2011.
SS Jiovanni Mier A Lexington Expecting big improvement after weight gain and big camp.
3B Jon Meyer A Lexington Struggled mightily and is entering an important year.
RF Ariel Ovando Instructional The only thing here is hype; anxious to see him debut.
CF Jay Austin High A Lancaster Was expecting more of a breakout in Lancaster, but still…
LF Telvin Nash Short A Tri-City Breakout season last year (876 OPS) could be a sign.
OF Jordan Scott GCL Solid #'s in 1st pro season. Mgmt high on this kid.
IF Jose Altuve High A Lancaster Just keeps producing (805 OPS last year).
C Roberto Pena A Lexington Defensive standout rose quickly to Lexington.
IF Jonathan Villar High A Lancaster Defense is there, bat could come along.
OF Jose Monzon DSL CF prospect did well and showed a bit of power in GCL.
       
SP Jordan Lyles AAA Round Rock We all know all about him already
SP Mike Foltynewicz Rookie Level Greenville So far so good; righty has all the tools to be a future ace.
SP Tanner Bushue A Lexington Very good year considering his age and league.  
SP Ruben Alaniz Rookie Level Greenville Good start to pro career.
SP Luis Cruz High A Lancaster Great #'s last year.
SP Vincent Velasquez Rookie Level Greenville Injury history lowers projection, but the tools are there.
RP Juan Minaya High A Lancaster Size is there, too many walks.
RP Evan Grills GCL Plenty of SO's in small sample size; tools are there.
RP Edgar Ferreira DSL Projectible lefty walked too many, but otherwise did well.
RP Luis Ordosgoitti DSL Great #'s in debut; projectable.
RP Jose Perdomo DSL Great SO:BB #'s. 1.67 ERA last year.
CL Xavier Baso DSL Has consistently put up good #'s in 3 short league seasons.
Honorable Mention:
IF Kike Hernandez Short A Tri-City Progressing nicely but will need to add more power to stick.
IF Jose Fernandez GCL Acquitted himself well in GCL debut.
IF Yonathan Mejia DSL Unknown.
IF Andru Sierra DSL Had BIG jump in production in follow up in DSL.
IF Jose Solano DSL Youngster had good debut in DSL.
OF Luis De La Rosa DSL Had significant jump in production in repeat DLS season.
SP Michael Feliz DSL PEDs aside, all the tools are there.
SP Jose Montero DSL So far so good for int'l signee with all the makings of an ace.
SP Francis Ramirez DSL Good #'s as a starter last year in GCL.
RP Enderson Franco DSL 3:1 SO:BB ratio.
RP Richard Rodriguez DSL Solid debut with 16 SO and just 5 walks.
RP Pedro Gomez DSL Peripherals better than appear.
Other Notables:
C Kenny Diaz DSL Struggled in DSL last season.
IF Kyle Redinger GCL Struggled in debut; will need to add power to keep going.
IF Josh Magee GCL Struggled in GCL.
IF Chan Moon GCL Korean struggled in debut.
OF Garen Wright GCL Probably not going much further.
OF Kelvin Vizcaino DSL Ovando-lite struggled in 47 game DSL season.
SP Mark Jones GCL Needs to work on control.
RP Krishawn Holley GCL Unknown.
