Astros Hire Jeff Luhnow As New General Manager
It's way past my bed time but I'm going to give it a shot.
It was rumored around midnight but wasn't confirmed for another 30-40 mins that that the Astros have finally chosen their man to run this team in the wake of Ed Wade's effort. Jeff Luhnow has been serving in the St. Louis Cardinals organization since 2003. Most recently as the Vice President of Scouting and Player Development.
It appears that a colleague of Luhnow jumped the gun on congratulating him on his hiring, which caused twitter rumors to swirl before being confirmed by several local and national media personnel.
Speaking of twitter he has an account so be sure to give him a follow.
Press release tonight, press conference tomorrow at Minute Maid Park 1PM CT

Wow thanks for getting this up tonight (this morning?). I can't say enough about how great you guys are on this site.
About Luhnow though, I by no means know much so I’m hoping that yall can jump in and tell me kind of what to expect with him. But from what I have read he seems like a pretty good pick to me. Seems like the perfect guy to help us build the team from the ground up. I’m glad we have a guy who is a bit more open to statistical analysis.
Beat me to it.
This is good news for the Astros. I like the idea of giving Luhnow a chance to see what he can do. Below is a beyond the boxscore link to Luhnow as well.

He sounds like he knows his stuff
But the fact that he has relied on the baseball knowledgeable people around him to sort of teach him makes me question how well he’ll do without those people. Also he gave a lot of credit to the scouts, which I REALLY agree with, but will he be able to bring some scouts with him or are we sticking with the guys we have? Did we ever replace the two scouts we fired?

I should be sleeping right now,
so because of that I’ll refrain from saying anything other than “Huh?”
FML
Here’s hoping that he is the answer we’ve been looking for. Hey!, maybe he can swing us Shelby Miller for Brett Myers?! I know it makes no sense but I’d be behind him for life if he could do it!

I doubt there’s anything to this, but I did notice the mention in Mctaggart’s article that Luhnow was born and raised in Mexico and that his bicultural background will serve as an asset.
I was wondering if that was placed their do to ease concerns about Crane’s past.

Everybody ready to say goodbye to Cedeno?
One of the few constant highlights from last years minor league recaps…

Yeah, seems like he has a pretty good chance at getting picked tomorrow.

Well, he's an ivy league guy...
So you know, there’s that. I guess it’s a good hire. I don’t really know much about the guy yet, but St. Louis is a hell of an organization.
Lol
I wonder who we get (if anyone) to replace Tal….who the phuck names their kid Tal?

I think Talbot was a popular first name in the late 19th century. I’m wondering if Postolos is effectively in Smith’s old post.
I thought we were supposed to believe there was a difference between Pres of Baseball and Pres of Baseball Ops?

Wow.
Surprising move. Can’t wait to see what he can do.

On my first take, I was like who is this guy?
Now I’m like: Wow, this guy has an impressive background.
I am definitely looking forward to seeing this guy become one of the best GM’s in the game.
