Paulino Optimistic About Pitching This Season
Felipe Paulino successfully completed a 45 pitch simulated game in Arizona. Paulino is optimistic about returning to the mound, perhaps as early as next week. Manager Brad Mills is cautiously optimistic, and says that he thinks Paulino may be able to take on bullpen assignments. That seems reasonable, given that Paulino won't be stretched out for starter assignments.

I think Paulino will be used sparingly when he comes back. Mills thinks it’s important for Paulino to get back in a major league game so that he can get that out of the way before next spring training. He says the mindset is different if Paulino comes into spring training without having faced live major league opposition after his injury. But I get the impression that Mills doesn’t intend to use Paulino for more than a handful of innings as the season winds down. That’s probably a good approach.
