Round Rock Express

I am both a Texas Rangers and Houston Astros fan though I lean heavily torward the Texas Rangers because I've lived closer to Arlington all of my life. I was wondering for the Astros and Round Rock Express fans out there, especially Austin area fans, what has been the reaction torward the Round Rock Express with the affiliate change to the Texas Rangers?

Grew up in Houston, lived in Austin now 15+yrs

Obviously an Astros fan and I’ve been to many RR games over the years. I’m disappointed but not surprised. Since the Ryan group owns the Express it was an obvious move once they bought the Rangers. I do think OK City now being our AAA makes less sense, geographically, than it belonging to the Rangers. Honestly Austin is really limbo for baseball, but I would say the Rangers fan base is growing here over the past couple of years. So I guess they are trying to expand their market.
Corpus is also owned by the Ryan group and you have to wonder if it’s only a matter of time before they switch that as well, although the Rangers have NO fans down there right now. But in a few years if the Rangers have some playoff success and the Stros continue to suck that could change.

I think most Astros’ fans were disappointed. It will be interesting to see what the reaction of Astros’ fans in the Austin area will be, in terms of Express attendance. The Austin area in the past generally has been more of an Astros’ fan base, rather than Rangers’. I know some die hard Express fans who were also Astros fans, who say that their frequency of attending the Express games will be much less now, because their interest in watching the Express was to follow potential future Astros’ players. They say that they might focus their attendance on games against the Red Hawks. Of course, there may be some local Rangers’ fans who will show more interest in the Express now. Given that Round Rock has a lot of people who moved from other parts of the country, the affiliation may not mean as much.
