Astros Claim RHP Cesar Carrillo From Padres
According to Zachary Levine of the Houston Chronicle, the Astros have claimed right-handed pitcher and former first round draft pick Cesar Carrilllo from the Padres. The 26-year old righthander was named the 88th best prospect in baseball by Baseball America back in 2006, but he has never performed well in his minor league career, with a 5.06 career earned run average and career K/9 to BB/9 rates of 6.1 to 3.4 respectively. His fastball sits in the low to mid 90s and he also features a curveball and changeup. Edwin Maysonet was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for Carrillo, who will not be joining the big league club before the end of the season.
