thats not to bad...
he is worth more than that based on this year, so even if he drops off next year its a nice contract…seems like its around 10.5 a year…not bad

More than I hoped, about what I expected
I guess he’ll have to produce around 2.5 WAR/season to be worth the contract. I think he’s capable of doing that, as long as he remains healthy.
The closer we get
to the end of his contract the team could think of moving him to contender for prospects. That would probably be about the time Lyles would definitely seem to be ready.
Hopefully Lyles will be already in the rotation by the time his contract is up. My hope is that the 3rd year of the contract will be the year Lyles really shows his full potential. He might play part of next year but it’ll likely take a bit for him to get adjusted through 2011 and 2012. I’m hoping in 2013 we’ll see what he’s made of
I have no problem with the deal
Considering his performance this season and Wade’s man crush on Myers IMO it kind of made it almost certain he wasn’t going to go for under $10M a year, maybe $9M if we were lucky. My hope was simply that they wouldn’t pay him more than $12 a year. I also like how the option is only $8.5M.
Our rotation isn’t anything to brag about for next year, but it isn’t bad by any means especially if Wandy and Myers play even close to their potential. Wandy, Myers, Happ, Norris, Paulino. I’ll take it. Take your time with Lyles but maybe bring him up in August or something if he’s ripping up AAA.
I like the shape our organization is taking. Our bullpen looks like it could be very solid in a couple years, I like the potential of our corner IFers and our OF and OF prospects look to be solid in a couple years. All we need is for some of our SP prospects to mature and become legitimate parts and to get or develop solid a MI. That’s a lot to ask but IMO our organization has been run better in the last 3 days than it has since Hunsicker was GM. Bash Wade all you want but he has been pretty darn solid between this trade deadline, the drafts, international signings, and all the solid waiver pick ups.
