Astros Claim Two Players, Add Them To Active Roster

Per Alyson Footer, the Astros have claimed infielder Anderson Hernandez and relief pitcher Nelson Figueroa off waivers. Both will join the 25-man roster, and Polin Trinidad will be designated for assignment. More details on the players in question to follow. Anderson Hernandez is a 27-year old shortstop/second baseman with a career .659 OPS in the minors and a career .621 OPS in the majors. He played for the Indians this season to the tune of .246/.270/.295 (63 plate appearances). Nelson Figueroa is a 36-year old right-handed relief pitcher who has been around the majors for awhile. He has a 3.41 ERA and a 3.51 FIP this year in 26 innings, significantly better than his career marks of 4.47/4.88. His fastball velocity is actually up this season from previous levels, and now he throws a blistering 88.3mph on average. UPDATE: Oswaldo Navarro and Gary Majewski have been sent down to AAA Round Rock to make room for the new players.
