Brett Myers
Hello Astros fans! I'm Brandon C., I write for MLB Daily DIsh and Pinstripe Alley...but still, I do not know much about Brett Myers. Can you guys give me some information about him, how'd he fit with the Yankees, what the Astros would want in return for him? Could he work as a reliever as well as a starter or only one of the two? What would be the package you would want in return? How would he fare in your opinion with the Yankees?
Any and all information is much appreciated, thank you!

Myers has been great this season
He works off a ~90mph fastball and a good curve and slider, and he throws a lot of strikes. He’s pitched at least six innings in every one of his starts with us, so he definitely saves the bullpen.
His main issue over the course of his career has been giving up the long ball, but he’s kept the homers down this year. Part of that is because Minute Maid Park is a lot less homer-friendly than Citizens Bank Park, where he played most of his career. That might make Yankee Stadium an iffy fit for him, although his groundball rate is up a little this season, and I get the impression that his command has improved as well since he’s fully healthy again.
I’m not sure what the Astros would want back for him. I’ve been following the rumors but I haven’t seen any specific reports on the kind of return they are looking for. I’d venture an entirely speculative guess that they will be asking for something along the lines of one grade B prospect and a grade C throw-in. Team needs are middle infield and starting pitching; I could see a package built around Zach McAllister or David Phelps possibly getting the deal done. But again—that’s pure speculation.

No one will dispute how well he has pitched this season, but I still have the sneaking suspicion that Myers’ performance relates to what goes on in his head. He’s always had the stuff, it is bringing it out is the problem. In Houston this season he has looked unruffled pretty much throughout the season, a true ice man.
In other words, getting him out of the Philly hothouse has done him wonders. Dump him back into a big market like the Yankees, and I’d expect his performance to dip as more pressure is heaped on him.
My two cents.
Not sure I agree with this; he had some good seasons with the Phillies when he was healthy. It seems more like it was injuries which caused him issues than the large market.
I’m not necessarily saying you’re wrong, it’s just that I just don’t feel comfortable making predictions like that about the mental part of a guy’s game when there are so many other factors and unknowns involved.
I dont think he’s a good fit for the Yankees or any AL team for that matter.
The Mets would be perfect for him IMO. I could also see the Dodgers.
Thanks everyone
So the general consensus is he’d be better in an NL pitchers park situation?

Yes, I don’t think anyone would argue that he holds more value in the NL, and especially in a pitcher’s park.

A good friend of mine used to say, "This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.
