Astros Minor League Recap

Man, that JD Martinez is one great hitter.  I'm not going to post his line here, you'll have to read the Lexington section to see his line.  But, the guy has been pretty solid the past three days.  He has hit a homer in each of the past three games.  Plus, we have some pitchers in the lower minors that are pretty impressive and young.  Check out Carlos Quevedo's line down in the GCL section.  I actually feel a whole lot better about our minor leagues now that the short-season leagues have started.  Some impressive kids down there.  Keep your eye on them here!

Star-divide

Round Rock lost 11-2

Its no secret, I'm not a big fan of Andy Van Hekken, mostly for outings like this.  He pitched six innings, but he gave up six runs (all earned), on seven hits, no walks, and struck out two.  But, maybe I'm a little hard on him.  Sergio Perez also showed why he was called up instead of Douglas Arguello with two innings pitched of five run ball on five hits, two walks, and one strikeout.  Matt Kata went 2 for 4. Ramon Vazquez went 2 for 4.  Andrew Locke went 1 for 4 with a double.  Brian Esposito went 2 for 3 with a double.

Corpus Christi lost 5-4 in the 11th

Douglas Arguello pitched seven innings and allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits, four walks, and picked up four strikeouts.  Jailen Peguero pitched one and a third innings and didn't allow a run on two hits, one walk, and struck out two.  Danny Meszaros picked up the loss in his inning and a third.  He allowed one earned run on two hits, but he did strikeout three.  Marcos Cabral went 2 for 5 and a walk with two strikeouts.  James Van Ostrand went 2 for 5 with a walk and a strikeout.  Jhon Florentino also went 2 for 5 with a walk and a strikeout.  Jonathan Gaston went 1 for 5 with a double and a strikeout.  Michael Affronti with 2 for 5 with a double and two strikeouts.  Jonathan Fixler went 0 for 3 but walked twice, but also struck out twice.  Sadly, Jack Shuck and Koby Clemens struck out four times each.

Lancaster

Shane Wolf pitched solid up until the third inning, that's when it all fell apart and he gave up four (earned) runs which limited him to three and a third innings.  He gave up five hits and three walks while striking out one.  Patrick Urckfitz picked up the victory with his five innings out of the pen.  He gave up two earned runs on three hits, one being a homerun, with seven strikeouts.  Albert Cartwright went 1 for 5 with a double, walk, and two strikeouts.  Andrew Simunic went 2 for 5 with a walk.  Brandon Barnes went 2 for 4 with a double and a strikeout.  Lee Cruz went 4 for 5 with a double.  Freddy Parejo went 2 for 5.  David Flores went 2 for 4.

Lexington lost 4-3

Brad Dydalewicz is still struggling in his return to Lexington.  He pitched seven inning and allowed four earned runs on seven hits, three walks, two homeruns, and struck out four.  Arcenio Leon pitched a scoreless, hitless inning with two strikeouts.  Michael Shurz also pitched one scoreless inning with one hit and one strikeout.  Jose Altuve didn't pick up a hit but he did draw two walks.  As mentioned earlier, JD Martinez went 1 for 4 with a homerun and a strikeout.  Kody Hinze also went hitless but also drew two walks.  Brian Kemp went 1 for 4 with a double.

Tri-City lost 2-0

Carols Quevedo is been really well in his brief season (1.86 FIP going into Monday is phenomenal).  He pitched six innings of two run ball on four hits (two homeruns) and no walks.  Why he impresses me?  He struck out six.  Michael Kvasnicka was hitless but drew two walks.  Ben Heath 1 for 4 with a double, but struck out twice.

Greeneville was postponed due to rain (there has been tons of rain in Tennessee lately)

GCL Astros won 6-2

Francis Ramirez pitched five solid innings.  He allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and one walk with four strikeouts.  Dieudone Paul picked up the save with four scoreless innings on five hits and one walk with three strikeouts.  Ryan Ditthardt went 1 for 4 with a double with two strikeouts.  Roberto Pena went 3 for 4 with two doubles. The kid Jose Fernandez went 1 for 4 with a triple.

DSL Astros lost 4-5

Jandel Gustave pitched two and a third innings and allowed three runs (one earned) on one hit and two walks with five strikeouts.  Elias De Leon pitched three and two-thirds scoreless innings on one hit and two walks with four strikeouts.  Johan Arias pitched two and a third scoreless innings with no hits and no walks with a strikeout. Andru Sierra went 1 for 4 with a double, walk, and a striekout. Kelvin Vizcaino went 1 for 4 with a double and a strikeout.  Kenny Diaz went 1 for 4 with a double and a strikeout.  Mario Gonzales went 1 for 1 with a double.
