Astros Minor League Recap: Sunday

Well, this series has been getting some great attention.  In fact, you can access this recap from Farmstros blog.  He has provided a permanent link to it.  The comments have been great.  Keep it up and feel free to discuss anything to do with minors.  Here's a good discussion question.  Now that Castro the Astro is now...well, an Astro, a strength in the Astros organization isn't really a strength.  How do you feel about the catcher situation in the minors?  I like it, actually.  We have some talented guys in the lower minors.  Some of our best power threats right now are catchers.  Ben Heath and Bubby Williams have been pretty solid so far in their few games.  Well, onto the games from Sunday night.

Round Rock won 9-1 in the continued game from yesterday

We mentioned Polin Trinidad's solid performance before the rain delay in Sunday's post.  Yorman Bazardo picked up where he left off to get the victory pitching three innings while giving up one run, three hits, no walks, and striking out two. Jared Bayliss pitched two scoreless innings, giving up one hit and striking out one.  Roy Corcoran pitched one inning and struck out two.  Luis Maza picked up one hit on his homerun and struck out once.  Bogey went 2 for 5 with two strikeouts.  Tommy Everidge went 2 for 4 with a double and a strikeout.  David Cook hit a double in four at-bats.  Brian Esposito hit a grandslam for his only hit in three at-bats.

Round Rock lost 8-5

TJ Burton was terrible in first start this year.  In four innings of work, he gave up six runs (all earned) on six hits and five walks, and only managed to strike out two.   Drew Meyer went 2 for 4 (he has been pretty good lately).  Bogey went 3 for 4 with a strikeout.  Tommy Everidge went 2 for 3.  Ramon Vazquez went 2 for 4 with a double and a strikeout.  Andrew Locke went 2 for 3 and a strikeout. 

Corpus Christi lost 6-3

Erick Abreu pitched a near perfect five and a third innings.  He allowed no runs and just one hit.  He didn't walk anyone and struck out five.  Henry Villar fell apart in his one inning of work.  He gave up five runs (all earned) on four hits, one walk, and struck out two.  Evan Englebrook pitched an inning and a third in relief and gave up two hits and struck out two.  Newly -acquired Michael Affronti went 2 for 4.  Jonathan Gaston went 1 for 4 with a double.  Koby Clemens went 1 for 4 with a triple and two strikeouts.  Jhon Florentino went 2 for 4 a double.

Lancaster won 10-6

My boy Dallas Keuchel had a decent outing, in Lancaster terms.  He pitched seven innings and allowed four runs (three earned) on ten hits and three walks, while striking out four.  Mike Modica pitched a scoreless inning.  Jay Austin went 3 for 5 with a double and a strikeout.  Albert Cartwright was hitless but walked three times. Brandon Barnes went 2 for 5 with two strikeouts.  Lee Cruz 2 for 5.  Freddy Parejo went 1 for 4 with a double and a walk.  Andrew Simunic went 2 for 3 with a walk.

Lexington lost 6-3

Luis Cruz had a decent start, going seven innings with three runs on nine hits. He also struck out five and walked two.  Jose Altuve went 2 for 4 with a double.  JD Martinez went 2 for 4 with his second home run in as many days.  Jake Goebbert went 1 for 3 with a double and a walk.  Jio Mier went 2 for 3 with a double and a strikeout.

Tri-City lost 7-2

Jake Buchanan pitched three innings and allowed just one run on one hit and two walks.  He also struck out two.  Chris Blazek continues to be dominant in his rehab stint as he pitched one scoreless inning where he allowed one hit and struck out one. Brandt Walker also pitched a scoreless inning as he walked on and struck out one.  Ben Heath recorded one hit (a home run) in one at-bat and struck out once.

Greeneville lost 3-2

Euris Quezada pitched six innings and allowed three run (all earned) on six hits and struck out two.  Garret Bullock struck out three and walked one in two scoreless innings while giving up one hit.  Philip Rorabaugh pitched one scoreless and hitless inning and struck out one.  Jonathan Merritt picked up one hit on a double and drew one walk.  Chris Wallace went three for four with a homerun.  Marcus Nidiffer went 2 for 2 with a double and walk.

GCL Astros lost 2-0

The 18-year old Jose Perdomo pitched four solid innings in his American pro debut.  In those innings, he allowed one earned run with two hits and two walks while striking out six.  In a rehab assignment, Colin DeLome went 1 for 4 with a double and a strikeout.  Kyle Redinger went 2 for 3 with a double and a strikeout.
