Robert Donovan is one of my favorite minor leaguers to follow. His success is almost an anomaly to me. Literally, none of his stats jump out as impressive. He has decent walk rates and low HR rates, but thats it. His low k rate and very low BABIP are worrisome, but it works.
Yeah, there is nothing in the process which suggests he should be performing this well. Very strange. Definitely one to keep an eye on and see if he can keep up the results, I guess. Not in my top 30 at the moment.
Asked Zach Levine about Abad
Here’s what he had to say:
He’s going to be headed to Florida to get some rehab in. Shouldn’t be out for the year unless there’s a setback. This will be in the minor league notebook tomorrow along with some other Class AA injury news. -Z
rookie ball
I wonder how the short season and rookie clubs will fair now into the 2nd season of the GCL Astros. Seems like we held a decent number of guys in extended spring training from this past draft.

Lumsden
Tyler Lumsden finally got blown up. 5 IP 8 H 4 R 4 ER 4 BB Lumsden was not good last year and has a pretty good stretch of solid starts but with sub-par stats. Finally caught up to him. How did he look Orem?
Missing a lot, but the strike zone was pretty tight. I was getting tired of squinting at the tiny MilB.TV screen and my eyes were starting to burn, so I turned it off after the fourth inning or so. I didn’t see much in the way of a secondary pitch, most just fastballs.
Clemens and Gaston were being made to look silly by the opposing pitcher who had great command of his curveball and the ability to spot it at the bottom of the zone for called strikes. Clemens also swung through three out of four fastballs just off the plate to strike out in his second at bat.
how is MilB.TV?
I have been thinking about getting it because I am more interested in out minor leaguers than our major leaguers this season. How’s the quality? How often is an Astros’s minor league team on?
It works.
That’s about all I can say for it at this point. The video is very small (low resolution, in other words), and you don’t get any information on the screen in terms of pitch count, velocity, baserunners, etc. The audio is just the radio broadcast.
It seems like there is usually at least one Astros minor league team available to be watched. But it won’t necessarily be the one you want to see. For example, I like to catch Jordan Lyles starts, but they’re only on MiLB.TV sometimes.
I would recommend it if you’re big into the prospects and want to get a visual impression of some of these players instead of just looking at the numbers. I wouldn’t recommend it for leisurely baseball watching.
