Towles to Corpus, Cash to Astros

According to Alyson Footer via her twitter, the Astros optioned C JR Towles to Double-A Corpus Christi and call up Kevin Cash from Round Rock. Alberto Arias was moved to the 60 day disabled list. Cash is hitting .174 in 23 at bats for the express this season. I suppose this means Quintero is now our everday catcher. Ouch. Too bad for the team Towles isn't taking Carlos Lee with him.

all the way down to Corpus? That’s gonna hurt the ego a bit.

I know it’s so that Castro can keep playing everyday at Round Rock, but still. Good luck to Kevin Cash.

J. R. Towles

I thought he should have played more to see if he could make it or not. The Astros do too much lineup changes. Towles twice had games of 3 hits and 2 hits then was not played the next day. How can aplayer get out of a slump like that. The winning teams have a line up that plays every day. The back up players know thats their role and should be ready. If they play every day and then cant do the job then send them down.Towles should have played every day. Then if he wasnt hitting send him down. I think it was more to it, like the pitchers not liking him or something of the sort.

yes, the Towles move isn’t about his offense. Towles apparently didn’t produce acceptable results with the other parts of his job, namely catching and working with the pitchers. The Astros feel that the veteran catcher Cash will help the young pitchers in the rotation, Paulino and Norris, develop. I hope the Astros have someone at Corpus who can help instruct him on those skills.
