Byrdak to the DL, Gervacio to AAA, Lopez and Chacin get the call
Still no word on why Gervacio pitched last night out of nowhere, though. Although none of this really impacts the Astros, it still lands on my long list of depressive things/events involving the Astros.

With the way Chacin has been pitching in the rotation, could this mean Bud Norris is getting bumped to the bullpen?
Just realized that, after your first comment. Controversy avoided.

Chacin was brought on to be the Loggy out of the pen, per McTagger on astros.mlb.com, and from the article it appears the Toronto connection had some weight on this move.
Gervacio threw a bullpen for Arnsberg Monday before the game and was cleared to pitch Monday night. Didn’t really say why he was sent down other than maybe to get him on more of a regular schedule coming out of the bullpen would be my guess.

Hey, maybe my proposal for Chacin from the off-season is being implemented. I have never been wild about Byrdak as the LHP in the bullpen. Jeff Sackman’s Hardball Times article in the Fall identified the top 10 minor league starting pitchers who could be a LOOGY, and Chacin was on the list. Ever since then, I had thought that Chacin could replace Byrdak as a LOOGY in the bullpen. As I recall, Sackman’s criteria was based on platoon split and strike throwing ability to LHB.
So rather than depressing, I view this a positive move.
a change but wont make much of an impact
looking at the numbers, these guys aren’t going to do much to right the ship. Like to see an impact player brought up
I don’t think there are any players in the farm system at this point that are going to make much of an impact. Lyles is still a year or two away, Mier is farther, and Castro still is getting his legs under him at triple A.

No real help at AAA right now. I would consider replacing Sullivan with Bogusevic, but that’s unlikely, because they probably don’t want Bogey in a bench slot right now. Chacin could thrive in the LOOGY position. We’ll see.
Replacing Lee with Collin DeLome might help, but before I’d do that, I’d need to see if DeLome’s increase in walks will stabilize, or is just a fluke. As I’ve said before, when he’s hitting .270 with a .350 OBP, his power and athleticism in the outfield are valuable. When he’s hitting .220 and .300, not so much.

Lee, Delome and Bogey
Lee is awful as a defencise player and indeed struggling at the plate. Delome is struggling at bit with the strike zone, but not bad in his first “swing” through AAA. Bogey is killing the ball, hitting with authority and purpose. Let’s bring up Bogey platoon him in Sullivan’s place. Let’s hope Delome gets more hits than strikouts. Both AAA outfielders look solid defensively.
Lee, Delome and Bogey
Lee is as bad in the field as my spelling. Not much effort, no skills.
