Is Brandon Morrow a starter or a reliever going forward?
That is the question. If he’s a reliever, the Morrow/League trade is more than fair. If not, the M’s got screwed.
Bud's slider working today
He got two swing and misses in that at bat, one on a fastball, strikes out Overbay on another good slider.
Feliz makes a rare misplay at third
Not a very hard hit ball, goes off his glove and rolls into foul ground. Runners on first and third and two out.
4-0 already?
This falling behind early is getting irritating, and the season hasn’t offically started.

Chris Coste
JD and Brownie discussed him. LIttle research shows Mets cut him; Nationals picked him off waivers three days ago ; Coste likely to start the season in AAA (Syracuse) .

6 runs in three innings - make it 7 runs in 3 innings
JD minimizing Norris having bad day. I’m not so sure I agree. Didn’t Norris get pounded last outing too? He and Wandy both living on good will.
This is against the Toronto Blue Jays, who look like a very good team to me, but are not even discussed as finishing in the top half of the AL East..
Mills (Nacho) takes Norris out of the game. Brian Moehler relieves.

No, I think Norris had a pretty decent outing last time. Considering the reasons he got pounded I’m not too concerned. The walks were bad but there was a lot of really bad luck/bad defense mixed in there.
The ump has had a bit of an erratic zone
Not that it’s an excuse but something to consider.

While we all want to see the young pitchrs in the rotation, I think we will be in for some frustrating times like this for both Norris and Paulino. It’s just part of the development of young starting pitchers. They both will be punished for BBs and are still learning the art of pitching around problems.
or why that's not his excuse
as inexcusable as it may be

Blue Jays are generally considered the worst team in the NL and some projections show them as the worst team in baseball.
Wow - worse than
Baltimore?
Kansas City?
Cleveland?
Oakland?

From my understanding Baltimore, Oakland, and Cleveland have some young players. KC has bad management.

Speaking of lefties
Have you guys seen I think it’s the Cub’s bullpen? They have like 4 left handers and only 2 right handers.

Wells with an RBI single which was almost a HR
Very hard hit line drive off the Crawford Boxes just below the yellow tape.
Now 11-0 as Moehler is being lit up like a Christmas tree. It would be bad if the Astros get booed for an exhibition game.
Moehler being pulled out of the game after getting shelled… more defensive struggles as Blum has a ball deflected off his glove into the outfield.
it’s all part of the Astros’ strategy of making opposing teams for the regular season feel overconfident.

This game reminds me of the coach in Greater Tuna
analyzing the recent loss (Loosely interpreted):
I’m not sure which hurt teh Astros the most: That Toronto scored 11 runs or that the Astros couldn’t score at all.

it is a small crowd
Small crowd size was mentioned early in today’s thread, but a camera scan of the crowd (I mean the MMP seats) was still surprising. Crowd size during spring training is meaningless I guess.

Byrdak and Chacin pitched effectively
Neither allowed a run. Chacin in particular tossed two scoreless innings, striking out 2.
Fulchino starts the seventh.

Fulchino had trouble keeping his fastball down. Some high pitches earned him walks, and a couple earned him hard hit balls. As a result, he leaves with 2 outs, having given up 2 runs. Sampson to pitch now.

it looks like that pop up in foul territory halfway up the first base line in Friday night’s game with Q and Shelton almost knocking gloves.

Chris Sampson pitching
I wonder how much of his success comes from his ball trailing to the right even though he’s a right hand pitcher.

Ben Sheets opening day pitcher for Oakland?
Surprises me. I thought he was having a much worse than expected spring.

He had as horrible a start to spring training as a pitcher can have. But then he started pitching a few gems in the spring. He no hit the Cubs for something like 6 innings if I recall correctly. As best I can tell, he came around to being pretty good, even though his control is still shaky, I think.
Of all the players in camp this spring
Matt Lindstrom quietly bacame the most dependable.
